NTL Pace 1000 IRDA extended remote

For health reasons of a relative, I need to switch an NTL Pace 1000 irDA STB from a bedroom. Most IR repeater systems seem incapable of doing this. Why is it not possible to use a repeater that merely reproduces the original IR signal.

Aparently NTL used unusually high freq IR on those boxes with the hope that games etc. could be played using the remote. This meant IR repeaters and 3rd party remotes will not work with the Pace 1000 series.

There is a work around however. You need a Red-Eye (Just a coincidence my name honestly!) that will allow a 3rd party remote from the likes of one-for-all to work. This will in turn allow any normal IR repeater to be used.

In my opinion though if your very old now Pace box was to become 'faulty' it would surly be replaced with a new box with standard IR and solve the problem.

Unless of course your Pace 1000 isn't exactly 'standard' itself?
