Can u put sky/virgin box vertically ? & is there such a thing like the sky/virgin eye

Hi I hate the look of these sky,sky-hd/virgin,virgin-hd box, so i was wondering can we put them on it's side (vertically) So it's hidden away ?

I have a section in my chimney breast wall were there is a fake wall section I can hide it in there, (it's clean and dust free )

The other question is: about 5-6 years ago I used to work for an electrical store, and they used to sell this thing called "sky eye" (I think that's what it was called) basically what it does is u connect 1 side of it into the sky box (it's a tiny sensor about 1-2'' big) and basically it lets you Controll the box from another room u just point the remote at this tiny sensor And have full control,

So do they still make this sort of thing, and would it work with sky-HD or virgin HD ? as this would be perfect for me as my box will be hidden in this small section in the wall so with this sensor I would be able to control and change channels

Any ideas and suggestions please
thanks and regards

You can indeed get magic eye's or IR repeaters which allow you to control the sky box out of view. However, cooling typically works on the sky boxes by drawing cool air in and pushing warm air out the other side. This would be seriously hampered by positioning it vertically and could cause it to overheat and die.

As Mudstuff says re the SKY boxes I dont think thatVM recommend putting their boxes on the sid. Why not put the box in a closed cupboard below or alongside the TV and use a remote extender?

My tv is going to be wall mounted above a fire surround so I can't put it by the tv side, there's no cupboards only floating shelfs were i do not want the vm box to be.

Re ventalation I can probebly put some thin beems going across so the vm box will still sit on its side but will also have gaps for air to circulate ?
