Cable TV in Jersey, Channel Islands

My TV signal is provided by the local cable TV company, at present I only get BBC 1, 2 ITV1 C4 and C5 but I have signed up for their sports fanatic package @ £ 28.84 per month which includes Sky Sports 1,2,3 + about 22 freeview channels ITV 2,3,4 BBC 3,4 E4 etc and 22 SKY channels including SKY One, discovery, GOLD, MTV, Eurosport, TCM etc etc

I used to have Sky Digital when I lived with my mother and we had about 200 FTA channels + all the channels I'm getting with cable and all the rest eg ITV2+1, TCM2, FIVER etc

The package I'm getting doesn't have all the channels available on SKY digital but its a lot better then just 5 and I really wanted it for Sky Sports 1,2 I'm not really bothered about the rest.

I won't get freeview over the air when the digital switchover occurs as I get my signal via cable rather then by aerial so the only way I'll get the freeview channels is to subscribe to one of the cable tv packages, the basic package costs £ 16.99 a month which doesn't include SKY Sports, so I am paying about £ 12 a month extra to have Sky Sports 1 & 2 on top of most of the freeview and 22 SKY channels.

This is one of the times where I wish I lived in a house on which I could erect a sat dish.

EDIT: In fact it is not Cable TV as per the UK that those of us in St Helier, Jersey are connected to but in fact an SMATV system and we are to get Digitial Terrestrial Television come the November 17th 2010 Digital Switchover because the States of Jersey have tendered a contract to a local Satellite installer company to upgrade all States managed properties in time for the Digitial Switch you can read more about it in my thread here Newtel Cable TV SMATV & DTT Jersey Channel Islands

I ended up cancelling my subcription to recieve Sky Sports via the SMATV system a few months after I wrote this initial post and am waiting untill such time that I can take out a proper Sky Subscription when the system here has been upgraded... should not be long now as its August 2010 and the work is to be complete before October 2010.

There are a couple of types of "stealth dishes" , e.g. the Digicube and the Digiglobe :

Well, if it's any consolation, I have many, many times where I wish I lived in a house in Jersey, with or without a sat dish

We lived there for a short while, would love to go back.

That said, our flats had a decent communal Sky set-up, allowing us to use our HD box. Took us about half an hour to switch our subs over though, as the nice Indian lady couldn't understand where Jersey was... "Where? Hampshire? London? Where? Channel what? An island? No, you can't get Sky there. What? You're watching it now? Oh..."

Ah well, at least faster broadband is on the way. I did a bit fed up with the 'Rapid' 0.9meg connection in my time there!
