FTA/FTV via cable?

I've previously had cable TV in 1999 through C&W for a year or so. I suspect Virgin Media now supply cable in my local area. Currently using Freeview with a indoor ariel with good reception 90% of the time. We don't watch enough TV to justifying having in outdoor ariel fitted (1st floor flat, no communal ariel) nor am I interested in subscribing to any PPV channels.

Q1. Can I receive Freeview channels through cable without a subscription (legally) ? And is it likely the socket will be active?

Q2. If the socket is inactive, will Virgin enable it (free or for a fee) to allow me to watch free to air/view channels?

Q3. Is it legal to buy an old/new digital cable box? I've heard cable boxes are the property of the cable supplier so cannot be sold.

TIA

All TV supplied down a cable by Virgin Media is subscription-based.

You have to pay Virgin Media for their services.

You can get their TV M package for free but you have to have their phone line at a minimum charge of £11 per month to get this. This is the minimum charge you can have from Virgin Media.

Re: FTA/FTV via cable?

Thanks for the reply Ernie. Will stick with Freeview for the time being. I'm not keen on changing my phone provider, as I have pretty good deal bundled with ADSL and free international calling. I would have to go for additional services with Virgin and the price doesnt justify our households usage. Maybe I will go for the externally mounted ariel after all.

You may get some channels by just plugging the cable feed into your TV, give it a go
