Re: bt totalbroadband

Not sure what you mean by your 'IP profile'?

You don't say what speed you are supposed to have.

It may also help to know what time your speed is fluctuating as it may be a contention problem.

Re: bt totalbroadband

Sounds like an unstable line or you are in the first 10 day training period of ADSL max.

Explination of IP profile/Bras etc:

By "IP Profile" he actually means "B-RAS Profile".
The B-RAS Profile, is what is being established during the 10 day setup period, as well as the lower fault threshold.

Sync speed (what he is seeing) has nothing to do with contention and is only a measure of your connection to the exchange equipment.

He does have a fault on his line..RAMBO (the all powerful bit of kit that monitors line status), keeps seeing faults, then improvements and is adjusting the line to try and maintain service (what it is designed to do).

What he needs to do...is trace his incoming line and separate any and all wiring after the main socket.

Usually achieved by removing the lower front portion of NTE5 type sockets and connecting the filter then router direct into the test socket on the lower right hand side.

YOU WILL NOT SEE IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT IN ACTUAL TRANSFER RATES!!!

I'm sorry to put that in capitals, but so often people are told to do this and then just put it back to normal as nothing changes.

You need to leave it like this for 3-4 days to see improvements in the connection.

It will also help to "cycle" your router, that is switch off and switch on, twice a day during this period.

Any questions post here or PM me...here is probably best.
