speed problems (Again!)

Hi,

I have had an on-going speed problem with infinity for about 2-3 months now, Ever since the install I have not had a constant speed on my broadband and its doing my head in. BT say the speeds I should get are 20Mbps download and 5 upload but dispite constant attempts, equipment changes, overhead cable changes it has never remained at constant speed. The lowest speed it can drop down to is 0.5Mbps download which is useless. I have been in contact with them via email and they have been getting me to take screen shots of my speed Wired plugged into my box and up until now they have been saying its basically my fault. But there recent email to me they have said that other people have had the same problem and that their suppliers are "Investigating" and for me to keep checking the speed. They kept said to me that its not a problem their end and everythings fine. Well obviously its not.

Another thing they wont let me go back down from an 80Mbps package to a 40Mbps one cos they said it will make no difference to the speed.

Am testing speeds with my laptop plugged in to router via Ethernet. They insist this is the best way even though I get better speeds from WIRELESS than WIRED!! Work that out! Lol

Can you go on speedtester.bt.com and see what your ip profile is.

It tells you what bt have set your speed at.

Don't mean to hijack, but mine is saying the max I can get is 42mb, but BT said I'm estimated 52mb when I signed up. So has BT set me to lower than what they predicted to me themselves???

If so that seems a bit dodgy

Also my upload is 6mb but according to that site the max I can have is 20mb (but I was predicted 15mb).

They say I should be 21.1Mbps download and 5.4mbps upload. But back in the real world and not BT's fantasy world I have just done a WIRED connection speedtest on speedtester.bt.com and I have got a wopping 0.56mbps download and a 0.58mbps upload.

Its an automated system that sets the profile just lower than what your modem is currently syncing at. It may be all you can get as the predictions arent always correct. The upload always says 20mbps as they dont profile the upload the same way.

Is that what the bt speedtester is showing your ip profile as???

Sounds like a faulty homehub ethernet ports
Next time you get poor speeds, run a wired and wireless test. Like above, the wireless will be higher
Reset the homehub again, if the wired speed increases then its a faulty homehub

Then phone BT and request a new one, and do not hang up until they agree

They have already changed the hub and it didn't make any difference. They seem to still
Think that there is a problem with the connection from the cabinet to my home. I will get a new one though just to be sure.
