Does all traffic count?

Hi

I recently fell foul of the FUP and had my bandwidth reduced at peak times. It was extremely painful and I don't want to fall foul again.

The lady from the FUP said that for an Option 3 customer like me the cut off of acceptability was about 100gig. My question concerns the timing of traffic. Do BT count the overall total of traffic or do they not bother with off-peak (after midnight) traffic? My old ISP (Nildram) had a 50Gb limit but only measured that during peak times.

Anyone know?

Cheers

Nick

Re: Does all traffic count?

This is taken from their site;

BT services such as BT Vision via the Vision+ box, BT Digital Vault and BT Broadband Talk are not affected by our Fair Usage Policy and don't count towards your usage allowance. So you can watch as much on-demand entertainment on your TV and make as many online calls as you wish, without having to worry about going over your allowance.

However, downloads directly from the online BT Vision Download Store (ie, to a computer and not via the V-box) do count towards your monthly usage.

Now I'm not saying it's right or wrong and please don't take it personally, but I don't think it matters in your case.

They basically think you're taking the p*ss.

and to be honest, I somewhat agree

I suspect you are judging me on what think I may be doing with the bandwidth.

But no offence taken. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Re: Does all traffic count?

Well not really mate, but you've exceeded their 100Gb limit, which is very generous, imo. It's the best part of what? 3.5Gb a day?

You'd easily be in the top couple of % for domestic use.

I'm not questioning what you're doing and indeed, don't care.

But if it's business use, you might do better moving over, imo.

Thanks for not getting the hump, it's only an opinion

Re: Does all traffic count?

If BT don't specify peak/offpeak times then it's probably all day.

Re: Does all traffic count?

To answer the the OP's question, everything counts: Upstream, Downstream, midday, midnight - everything.
