Books on the Vietnam war

Has anyone any good recommendations for a complete history of the Vietnam wars? Having watched Top Gear tonight, it became apparent to me how ignorant I am as to what actually happened and I'd love to read a historical account of what happened from 1950-1975.

Re: Books on the Vietnam war

these 2 for the history

Vietnam: The Definitive Oral History, Told from All Sides: Christian G. Appy: Amazon.co.uk: Books

Vietnam: A History: Stanley Karnow: Amazon.co.uk: Books

these 2 for the photos as some will bring tears to your eyes

Larry Burrows: Vietnam: Larry Burrows, David Halberstam: Amazon.co.uk: Books

Don McCullin: Don McCullin, Susan Sontag, Harold Evans: Amazon.co.uk: Books

this one tells you what happened to Larry burrows and is a very good read

Lost Over Laos: A True Story of Tragedy, Mystery, and Friendship: Richard Pyle, Horst Faas: Amazon.co.uk: Books

also a very good read

Chickenhawk: Robert Mason: Amazon.co.uk: Books

you also have to remember about Vietnam that they have been fighting for their land since the chinese dynasty's

from 1950 to 1975 was probably the final chapter

if the French,British and Americans had read their history books they wont have gone to war in vietnam

also the American Vietnam war was the first media war as in news was transmitted over the world within 12 hours and very little censorship unlike WW2 which took weeks and was very censored
