Very Nice, I always like the race issues. I don't think it will be too long before we see one in the new dc after what happened in JL 2.

Absolutely, I'd be surprised if we didn't end up with a race or two, everyone always loves them!

I had a liitle delivery on Saturday and was in little comic orgasmic mode as I savoured the moment (accompanied by angels goinmg "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in the backgroud) of around 10 pieces. I wrote this on another site:

Quote:
Well my month of Daredevil eBay purchases comes to a close, and I don't think I did too badly. I have to wait for them all to come in of course, but they were all high grade (7.0+ and mostly 7.5-9.0 - there is no 10.0 for reference) which makes them higher priced for 'Silver Age' comics (30+ years old).

I had budgeted about £100, which quickly increased to closer to £150, but even this huge amount tied down the bidding because of the amount of bloody issues the person listed all at once. Especially when I needed more than 30 that were on sale, and maybe another 10 to replace ones that had in lower (3.0 to 4.5) grades that I wanted to replace.

So you end up waiting, seeing how bids on earlier items are doing before then committing to others. My excel spreadsheet shows my last bids (there were many more as I chopped and changed between things I wanted) and how much more I was prepared to bid, but in most cases, I was right at my limit and unable to snipe as many comics finished one minute after each other.

So what does £120+ get you in Daredevil comics?

10 :: FN/VFN (7.0) £20.37, 29/12/02. At the top of my bid, and worth three times as much, for instance a FN+ (6.0) copy normally hits £55. This replaces one I already have in VG- condition, but the cover has multiple creases which makes it look far worse than it is.

18 :: VFN (7.5) - £24, 29/12/02. One of the few I was missing in the sub 20 numbers, I was ready to bid another few quid on top. Saved around £5-10 off rrp.

31 :: FN/VFN (7.0), £8.27, 29/02/12. Replaces a G (3.0) copy I have, with the cover missing a corner, lots of missing little bits. I still had £5 more headroom, and probably saved £7+ off rrp.

32 :: VFN- (7.5), £9.00, 29/02/12. Replaces another one I have that is not so good. Had a few quid headroom, and again probably saved £5+ off rrp.

34 :: VFN (8.0) £7.51, 29/02/12. As 31, this replaces a copy that has little cover holes and torn cover. About £1.50 headroom on my max bid (meaning I actually bid £9) so probably got this at half price of rrp.

45 :: VFN, £10, 29/02/12. It was Buy Now @ £12, but offers accepted. Seeing as how one of the lot I was bidding on was a VFN 45, which went for £14, and then another one in VFN went for £14.55, I was happy to snap up this for a tenner. Saved around £7-10 off rrp.

47 :: VFN £13, 29/02/12. It was Buy Now @ £16, and again went in with roughly a 20% off offer that was accepted.

70 :: VFN/NM (9.0) £10.03, 29/02/12. At the max of my bid, and saved about £5 off rrp.

78 :: FN/VFN (7.0) £4.72, 29/02/12. I had placed a max bid of £7, and this has an rrp of about £11.

79 :: VFN- (7.5) £7.52. I had a top bid of £9, and saved a few quid on RRP.

84 :: NM- (9.2) £8.95. Hit the top of my max, and I reckon this a £20+ rrp comic in this condition.

89 :: VFN- (7.5) I paid £7.03, my max, and this is another £15+ comic.

Basically I had the problem of not knowing how much I was going to eventually get (you think!), plus my internet at work is rubbish, meaning refreshing the page was not an option really. If I had more cash, or not won earlier bids, I would have probably bid £10 on the lot from 80-100, winning a good 15 of them. Plus, far too many buggers were bidding on my comics - the cheek of it. Ideally, no one would have noticed them, and I would have grabbed loads of them all really cheap! Oh well, maybe next time.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though, but I am not complaining - I ended up with 12 comics, 8 issues of ones I was missing, and 4 replacing issues I already had.

There was lots of work maintaining the bids and watching, but this type of thing happens once in a blue moon. A massive bunch of high grade Daredevils and me with cash in my pocket? I am thinking we can liken this occurrence in terms of Haileys Comet....

Expect my 'Theydon Comics' pages to be updated shortly with them once they arrive, and I have just started using my daughters scanner, which works an absolute treat to get the covers in really fine detail.
And my daughters scanner does just what I need. The crappy photo's I took always had flash bounces on the cover, meaning I had to shhot them at an angle, which did not really work, were the scanner could get all the detail (and flaws) in crisp detail. I will be adding more scans soon to here as I am still tinkering...

Those plus 2 others yes. Twelve 40+ year old Daredevils in FN-VFN condition and I probably paid approx half the guide price overall.

Cheers!

I am waiting for them to arrive (I have some others as well, but nothing special) from the US. A massive collection of high grade Daredevil from issue 1 onwards and with three days to go, no one had bid anything other than token amounts.

I had a 'spare' £100, and started to bid. Sadly, it seems as though someone went higher than the 50-60% I bid on each indivual issue but also had enough to continually bid more than me. So while I had to wait until I was outbid (then freeing up cash to bid again) they could continue to bid.

I though I was grabbing issues 80-100 or so, totally around £100, and my bids of £24 for multiples of 5 issues was outbid by a few dollars (and sniping as well, they really need to stop that! ).

The bids all ended up finishing from 7pm to 6am, and I was struggling to stay awake (and slightly annoyed at being outbid) and so went to bed dropping $90 on 131 and $10 on another 6 or so bids that covered newer and less valuable issues that I needed.

I woke up to find that I won 131 for around £45 (normally a VFN/NM copy is around £80) and another 30 'newer' issues for around £4 total.

Then got crippled for £30 postage

You should - I still need some issues, so let me know what you have if you wish to sell them on....

This is not supposed to be about me buying more and more Daredevils, it should be you lot showing me some Silver Age!

Anyway, these were waiting for me when I got in...

I saw some Marvel comics today in the Works, they have random issues of X-Men and Avengers (modern era ones), two issues in a bag for 99p, I was tempted to buy them just so I could post them in here lol.

I know why I don't have a collection of floppies it's because I wasn't introduced to Marvel comics when I was a young Cloyst, there was no Marvel wherever I was buying Beano & Dandy comics from , I only got into Marvel through piracy maybe six years back (shock horror piracy making Marvel a heap of cash) I'd find myself reading a series then anything I liked I wanted to buy in a nice glossy shiny format with lovely large art and quality paper.

One advantage floppies have is there's no gutter loss like in the expensive hardcovers, look at this page. This is from Realm of Kings which has a sewn binding, the ones with glued bindings are even worse. I'd love to be able to see the art!.

Poor Crystal is just lost in friggin gutter. You can't read it normally, you gotta stamp it down and look at it from an angle instead of head on.

Exhibit A look at panel with Ronan & Quicksilver, you can hardly tell Crystal is there!

Exhibit B this is my pulling the pages as far left as I can with my thumb

Exhibit C The close up

Amazing!, Amazon.com managed to ship all five of my chunky Marvel books to me without damaging any of them!. Box took a beating as it was way bigger than the books so they could slide about, they had 15 of those airbag things in there (only on one side - they'd put them in a place which wouldn't stop the books moving) but all but one of them were deflating so they must have been doing a grand job absorbing all the impacts.

Thats the only thing i hate about amazon is the packaging. I would by some book from waterstones but i see people in there reading them and bending back the covers.

Any suggestions as to what company sends graphic novels out that are well packed?

Bought my first ever comic recently (outside of The Dandy and Beano when I was a kid anyway!). Just got the monster Walking Dead Compendium 1....1000 pages

I've just finished watching season 2 of the TV series, so will be interesting to see a. how this compares to the TV series and b. how I'm going to find reading a comic again after all these years...
