Comic recommendations

Afternoon all,

Now I know it's not strictly Movie memorobillia or movie related but I'm after some inspiration for some new graphic novels.

Basically after seeing the uber sexay Galactus busts in Spikecast & Buff Daddy's collections I've decided I should read up on the big bad man & just wondered if anyone could recommend me any good Galactus based GN's I could peruse??

Also I guess this could be a good thread to just recommend good GN's for other Forum members...basically we can leave it running & if you just post a question with "XYZ" Character & then people can reply with recommended GN's/Stary Arcs for said characters.

That said be warned...General Batman/Spiderman/Superman requests could get pretty lenghty lol

Anyway so can anyone help my little dilemma??

Ta muchly

Neil

Re: Comic recommendations

for Galactus and silver surfer the best one may be silver surfer: parable. i think it's out or print though. recently there was an Ultimate Galactus series spread out over a few comics and collected books, that was the Galactus that inspired the character in the FF2 movie if i recall correctly.
there hasn't been too many definitive SS or Galactus runs though. about 10 years or so maybe there was a mark waid (i think) written run pencilled by Ron Garney that was considered very good, cant remember if i read it though.

as for other comics, wouldn't know what you're in to so hard to recommend anything.

Re: Comic recommendations

Thanks for that

Will have a look for that SS GN if I can find it.

As for other stuff...at the mo I'm not too fussed really mostly just intrigued by the Galactus Character recently so looking mostly for him & SS related I guess.

Generally though I'm a Batan fan so most of what I've read recently have been Bat inspired...

Hush
The Man Who Laughs
Arkham Asylum
Gotham by Gaslight
Long Halloween
Greatest Joker Stories ever told
Justice

Other than that I'm working my way through the Walking Dead series & also Marvels Civil War series.

Anyway thanks for the help.

Neil

Re: Comic recommendations

No problem.

If you've never read it check out Batman Killing Joke and the Frank Miller year one and the 2 Dark Knight series. Too much other stuff to mention, not up on current ones though and have no interest in Civil War.

Re: Comic recommendations

I always totally forget I've read Killing Joke for some reason which is odd because I love it...easily one of the best Batman Stories ever & the best Joker ever.

I will look into Year One, thanks for the info.

Cool Re: Comic recommendations

Galactus first appered in Fantasic Four 48 and the story line ran to 50.
There is a Marvel Masterworks out covering 41-50 and if you like the FF well worth getting as it covers their meeting with The Inhumans for the first time as well

Marvel Masterworks : the Fantastic Four Volume 5 - £26.64 : Forbidden Planet International, Your Online Entertainment Superstore for Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek and more

If you want something a bit different try the graphic novels of Johna Hex collects about 6 issues in each one and usaly a self contained story in each issue, hes sort of a Clint Eastwood type of cowboy, an anti hero.

Re: Comic recommendations

I'm not into comics/GN's really (apart from some manga) but I did enjoy reading Adventures of the Rifle Brigade. Mad!!

I tried to read the silent hill comics, and gave up unfortunately. I love the games, but the comics didn't work for me

Re: Comic recommendations

Batman Year One, Killing Joke and Dark Knight (not the later one though sadly ) are just supurb, and also a Death in the Family (Batman 414ish?).

And from a comic lover who only normally only rates Batman and Daredevil, I thought that Civil War and the Ultimates Vol 1 to 3 are all a fantastic read as well.

Galactus was in a recent storyline for Marvel - Son of Hulk - Can't remember the issues off the top of my head.

Just started reading Y the Last Man and The Walking Dead in graphic novel form. Fantastic reads and both are around 10 graphic novels in length. I love finding good stories after they have gone to GN (now that I am not buying comics obviously)
