Can't remember its name right now (World Books?) but there used to be flyers for it in every single magazine when I was growing up. Remember the 5 books for 1p each, then they jacked up the price and tied you in, although you never bought another book again !!!

Haven't seen it in a long time - is it no longer running?

I remember them. The address was Swindon XX or something. I got locked into the 'Encounters' club which sold Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Unexplained mystery books. The prices certainly went up once you got past the introductory offer.
You had to chose a book each month, or they'd send you their choice. I was always too lazy to send them back promptly and ended up having to pay for some real stinkers.

I haven't seen the ads for years, but then I don't get the TV Times/Radio Times any more.

Is it possibly 'The Book People'?

This is the one my mum used to get and here's a link -

The Book People: Top quality, hand-picked books at a fraction of high street prices

Although when I look at that site the logo doesn't seem to be the same as I remember when I were but a lad

BCA - Book Club Association. The 'club' part was rebadged under different names depending on Genre.

I joined the Sci-Fi & Fantasy obviously - picked up a couple of graphic novels and books under my 5 for 99p offer.

It was only after a while that I became a book snob and because their hardbacks are there own brand and smaller than normal, that I gave them up. I am sure some hardbacks where given by the original manufacturer, while others in a small factor - not sure the reasoning (cost?) but you could not tell until it came through the door.

I think I was in this one too and if you were savvy you could continue to pick up some bargains. What I did notice a couple of times though was they'd sometimes offer you a free (or cheap) mystery book and they were inevitably part 2 of a series of books you'd never heard of

At my old company, they had a book club come round every quarter offering some great prices on books. It was a limited selection, but if you dropped lucky with the titles, you could pick up some great bargains.
