Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

As per title, does anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

I know of Chaos City in St Albans (pain to drive to though as St Albans traffic is a nightmare) and also Calamity comics in Harrow. Anyone know of any others? The closer to Aylesbury the better.

Re: Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

Probably a bit too far but there are Close Encounters stores in both Bedford and Northampton:
Comics | Graphic Novels | Manga from Marvel and DC Comics

There's a place called Fanboy Comics here in MK but I can't actually find their site at the moment, I'm sure it's still about though...

Your best bet is to go down to London if possible in all honesty as there's a good range of shops down there, depends what you're looking for though.

Hi Inked,

I live in Herts, and the only realistic options (other than Mail Order services delivering items to your home) is likely to be Forbidden Planet in Central London, or their branch in Cambridge. However, neither is going to be convenient for you in Aylesbury.

Unfortunately, you may have to either get items delivered to you, or set-up subscriptions to certain titles, via the publishing companies themselves. Sorry that's not the answer you wanted.

Reading would be about an hour, same as both Northampton and Bedford, he's in one of them areas where everything is in the same sort of circular area away, for that reason it might be best to think about a trip to London as the selection of shops there is going to make a huge difference than being restricted to one or 2.

But it all depends what the OP is after, calling around the shops to see if they have what he wants might be something to do first, but if it's general browsing then definitely go to London.

Re: Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

Cheers guys, just after somewhere to browse and to make more regular visits to - I always used to go to Calamity comics in Watford but it's no longer there.
I was trying to find somewhere more local as I didn't want to have to go into London if I didn't have to (would rather just drive somewhere).

Some good suggestions though, my brother lives in bedford so I'm over there on a regular basis so that'll be a good place to start.

And just in case you or anyone else reading goes to Brighton, try Daves Comics shop - he has a very cheap $ ratio (and very cheap Magic The Gathering cards).

I must admit, my Comic buying stopped a long time ago now, and I pick up a few graphic novels, nothing like my buying power of the late 80's through to the end of the 90's

Well, recent publications that might get you back into comic collecting again, include titles like:

- Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Season 8 - concluding the TV show good and proper, by Joss Whedon)

- The Devil's Panties (12-issue mini-series about a young woman's life as she hits her 20's)

- The Keep (5-part mini-series based on the original novel that became the Michael Mann film from 1983)

Re: Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

Thanks for that mate. My Collection currently includes all the Sandman, Preacher, Stray Bullets, Strangers in Paradise, Groo, Bone, lots of Batman and Daredevil (early stuff but nothing that early to be of value) - I was always not quite the Superhero fan, Batman was gadgety, not powers, and Daredvil took the Blindness thing to a kind of Superhero type extent, but stayed within my 'boundaries'

I must admit though, that the Civil War run and Ultimates mini series were top notch.

Re: Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

American Beauty and Jarhead director Sam Mendes appears to be in line to direct The Preacher, though nothing has been firmed-up as yet. Could be another Watchmen-type "adult" version of a comic book !

Re: Anyone know of any good comic book shops in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire?

Just came across this thread - for what its worth I moved to the Aylesbury area a couple of years ago and am struggling a decent supplier within a reasonable drive so know exactly what you are going through. I have pretty much stopped buying monthlies in favour of trades as a result.
In case you don't know, there is a comic stall in Wycombe market (on a Saturday only) - not a terribly reliable source of product but I understand they will order in for you from their shop. Let me know if you find anywhere good - I have tried the comic shop locator service (ComicShopLocator.com) but nothing comes up that hasn't been covered above.

Just in case anyone stumbles across this again, the Diamond comic shop locator for the UK can be a bit out of date (as I recently found out to my cost!).
