The Friends of Eddie Coyle!!

Just looking on dvdtalk and found this.

Peter Yates' (Bullitt) The Friends Of Eddie Coyle, starring Robert Michum and Peter Boyle is out next week. Sound like a good disc from Criterion.

I had no idea this was coming out. I've immediately ordered it. I can't wait.

Anyone else been waiting for this one?

Re: The Friends of Eddie Coyle!!

Superb, if not a feelgood, movie.

I haven't seen it in many a year but Mitchum's downbeat performance is spot on as the middle-tier carreer criminal.

Some of the themes explored here resurface in Donnie Brasco.

Another film from around this time that I like "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" could do with a SE release. Since it has a big name remake out this year I hope it will see an increased interest in the older film.

Re: The Friends of Eddie Coyle!!

I totally agree, ba' heid.

I think this makes a good companion piece to another Robert Michum film from the same era, The Yakuza. A great thriller from director Sydney Pollack, written by Leonard Schrader, Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and Robert Towne (Chinatown).

My Eddie Coyle has been sent and should be here next week. I can't wait. It's been years of waiting for this on dvd.

Yakuza.

What a fantastic movie, I'm sure the dvd is in the sales just now at around £3, which makes it very tempting to just buy and not mind a double dip if a better release turns up or indeed a bluray (if/when I can afford to go hidef).
