Best film to show off blu ray?

Although i have had my HD tv for ages, i've been waiting for the format to stablise and have just ordered my first blu ray player (sony s550)

Wanted to consult the gurus on this board as to the best film(s) to really show off the format....

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

IRON MAN!!!!!

Or The Dark Knight... both AWESOME for pic and sound.

I, Robot is highly rated too, and for animation either Ratatouille, Cars or Wall.E

Planet Earth always gets a mention. To be honest, theres now loads - you could try: Baraka, Spiderman 3, Speed Racer, Any of The Pirates Of The Caribbean films, Dark Knight. Those are just a few from my collection, but its a start!.

Also, check out this list - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858316

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

Dark Knight is a good one for showcasing both sound and picture but another favourite of mine has to be Transformers - for sound. Even the logos give me tingles at the start and then the attack sequence on the US base by the Helicopter/Decepticon absolutely rocks.

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

Speed Racer is a mind blowingly good film to show off Blu-ray.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I quite liked the film, very silly, but good fun.

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

Baraka, more of a doc with music than a film (similar to the 'HD Discovery Travel; series)but arguably the BEST digital BD transfer to date (from an 65mm > 8k source ! )...and it shows, the PQ is incredible, but audio is mainly music, albeit HD audio

Yes, as a region-free US release, no region B release announced as far as I know as yet, and it is indeed a fantastic demo disc

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

Yea King Kong is supposed to be excellent but I'm yet to pick it up.

One I really like is the Incredible Hulk, (Ed Norton one). Surprised that's not mentioned yet.
I just switched the brain off and enjoyed it more simply because it looked SO GOOD!

Demo material and a fun film, can't beat that combo

Re: Best film to show off blu ray?

Are you sure your mate hasn't got a dodgy one? There are extras on the one I've got. There is some BD Live stuff on there too, haven't checked that out as yet, as it wasn't live when I got the disc.

Can be had for £13.99 at Playusa, apparently, can't go wrong at that price.

For me its Iron Man or Planet Earth. Haven't tried the Dark Knight yet (come on Play.com, hurry up) but it should be cracking with those Imax scenes.

I know its an older film but I'd also recommend Zulu - jawdropping colours and vistas, staggering considering the age of the print.

Also if you've got good surround, and for sheer popcorn cheese I'd say Stealth. A guilty pleasure, but I love it.

I-Robot has to be up there with the best.

Hard to see how a picture could be any better, utterly flawless.

I also found the "Coastlines of Europe" segments on Discovery HD are very impressive for broadcast HD

I would also recommend 'How the West Was Won'...

Absolutely stunning imagery for a film made in 1963...

Enjoy,

Kung Fu Panda for sound and PQ, the sound in that movie is just amazing the way that they mixed the surround sound I thought was bloody brilliant. Some of the best surround sound I have heard !!

For sound I would also recommend 3:10 to Yuma or Hitman. 3:10 to Yuma especially if you have a 7.1 set up
