Smile "Callan" on DVD - your assistance, please!

Does anyone know:

1) Are series 3 and 4 of Callan available on DVD anywhere outside Australia? (And if not, why the hell not? )

2) Are series 1 and 2 of Callan available on DVD anywhere at all, regardless of whether it's in Australia or not?

3) If series 1 and 2 are not available on DVD, are they available in some other format, such as VHS?

4) Repeat questions (2) and (3) for the original play A Magnum for Schneider, and the "reunion episode" Wet Job.

The first colour series was released on R2 DVD in GB. Play are selling it for £110 second hand or £160 for a new copy!

The film remake of A Magnum for Schneider is available for £2.99 from Play.

Re: "Callan" on DVD - your assistance, please!

The above listed are the only legit releases but there is a rather naughty box compiling all the surviving episodes (ITV wiped some so they could use the tapes to archive Coronation Street!) onto DVD, frequently appears on ebay. If you want absolutely loopy try James Mitchell's most recent Callan book, Bonfire Night (also fetching silly money now its OOP). I don't know what Mitchell's been taking but I want some.

Re: "Callan" on DVD - your assistance, please!

Thanks guys.

In case anyone else stumbles across this thread, the first series of Callan to be made in colour was actually series 3. This is the one that play.com is trying to sell for over £100. It's available a lot more cheaply from Australia, as is the 4th series (the boxed set of which includes the 1974 movie). For example:

Re: "Callan" on DVD - your assistance, please!

Thanks for the links Nicholas. Series 4 would have gone on my Xmas list but I'll put it on my Birthday list now.

I's a shame what IPaintSara says about episodes being wiped. It was only the colour episodes apart from the reunion one when Channel 4 screened repeats.

They also repeated A Magnum for Schneider as part of their TV Heaven slot.

Cheers
Bri

Re: "Callan" on DVD - your assistance, please!

Slightly off topic,Saturday 13th just gone, before the lost episode of Dads Army was shown,Ian Lavender was in the BBC'S archive discussing the state of certain shows from the bygone era,and it was a crying shame how many episodes of favourite shows were wiped, just because the media was too expensive.

Luckily for the guy who was working at the BBC at the time,he had the nous to pilfer those cans of film out of the skip, otherwise more stuff would have been lost forever.

And it was fascinating to find out how they were able to colour correct the footage from the black and white film.
