Top 20 Region 1 DVDs/Region Free Blu Rays

I am off to New York next weekend and would be grateful if someone could recommend the best 20 region 1 dvds and region free blu rays to buy. By the best I mean the discs that are the best value for money. I know for example the US version of T2 has lots of extra content where as the PAL version has nothing.

I intend on buying a M/R dvd player when I return so would like to start dabbling in the world of Region 1

To be honest I wouldn't get too excited about buying in the US. I was in New York a couple of weeks ago and their DVD and Blu-ray prices are very very high. Even if it was at the old $2 to £1 they would have still been expensive, but at the current $1.45 to £1 it makes them very expensive and not value for money at all.

As already mentioned the exchange rate doesn't make importing DVDs good value for money right now. Although going multi-region is definitely the way to go. I would suggest trying DVDcompare.net and researching the titles you're interested in. I think if it was me going I would personally try and pick up box sets of my favourite TV shows and movies, of those that come over the 18 pound customs threshold (does that even exist anymore?).
