Blu-Rays in 16:9 Format?

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone could give a small list of any Blu-ray films that are in 16:9 format if any exist at all.

The reason being it would be nice to see one of these in full screen format on my plasma without having the black bars top and bottom.

Just a random question i was thinking about.

Thanks
Fraser

Easier surely just to have a browse in HMV or somewhere or even online and any discs that have an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 will fill your screen and any that are 2.35:1 etc will have those dreaded evil black bars that must be eliminated at all costs !

Why would you think they would make Blu Rays any different to normal DVD's which all come in a variety of ratios ?

Re: Blu-Rays in 16:9 Format?

With Full Screen (16:9) you will loose part of the image from a 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source. You DON'T want that. Check this:

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/764

Also, 1.85:1 is not 16:9. 16:9 is 1.78:1, which means you get black bars on top and below when displaying 1.85:1, unless your TV overscans (and you loose image that way).

Re: Blu-Rays in 16:9 Format?

I heard that 30days of night had a 16:9 master, but it was released as 1.85:1. Apart from that I think anything made for theatre is going to be 1.85 or greater.

TV shows on blu-ray may be 16:9.

i think the op knows that, he just wants a movie that is natively 16:9, so that he can fill his screen and not miss anything. for demo purposes that is actually pretty useful

Does this rather baffling request really need two threads ?

Ah, ok. It's just that in the other thread he said "16:9/1.85:1" so I thought he was mistaking the two of them.

As for 1.78:1 movies I only know The Shining. Looks great, but hardly demo material for WOW factor.
