Men In Black Blu-ray screen ratio

Just got Men In Black on Blu-ray and noticed the image fills my entire screen. Given that the disc is meant to be 1:85 ratio surely I should be seeing black bars at the top and bottom. All reviews say its 1:85, as does the blu-ray case, but it seems I'm getting a 1:78 picture.

Can anyone throw any light on why this is?

I'm using a PS3 and a 42" Kuro.

Does your TV have an 'exact scan' or 'full pixel' setting? because that is the only way you will get the slight black borders as normally the overscan will hide the slight black bars.

Re: Men In Black Blu-ray screen ratio

Widescreen TVs are (usually!) at a 16:9 ratio, which translates roughly as 1.78:1. As Mr Jones said, if you have a 1:1 pixel setting on your display and the disc is true 1.85 then you will indeed see tiny slivers of black at the top and bottom. As Mr Jones also rightly points out, the overscan on many a set will hide those tiny borders.
