Strictly Ballroom and Bugsy Malone...

Has anyone chanced to purchase any of these gems yet?

I'm holding out until there are some reviews.... has anyone seen these on blu-ray and can comment on the PQ etc? Cheers!

I had a very quick look at Bugsy Malone on the projector yesterday, but not under ideal lighting conditions. I was slightly underwhelmed by the picture, but I think a lot of that has to do with the age of the stock and the very sepia feel of the photography. There's certainly a softness to the transfer, but I didn't notice any digital artifacts. The sound fares better as there is the original mono and a Dolby 5.1 remix which renders the songs quite pleasingly across the soundstage. I didn't delve into the extras, but there's definitely a commentary and, I think, a featurette.

I've not seen the very latest DVD version (the Optimum sing-along release) but I know the previous DVDs were pretty poor, which makes the Blu-ray a reasonable option.

I didn't realise Strictly Ballroom was out on Blu Ray Love this film. Now all we need is Priscilla Queen of the Desert!

Is Strictly Ballroom region free?
