Trading Places arrived yesterday and I logged it onto my list.

I'm up to 92 Red and 52 Blu. I just get the feeling that I'll go for 100 red. I have one of each on the way at the moment, too.

Re: Post Your DVD/Bluray/HD DVD Collection

My collection is at....7 Blu discs.

It's not really a matter of lack of money, fortunately, but a matter of lack of interesting movies in the format. The plus side is that I don't have to sell my house to buy an entire back catalog of already published discs and I can simply buy them as they come along.

Pecker... could I ask where you got your shelving units from? I really like them! When I finally get my own place I'd like some for my video game and film collection! Obviously my film collection is no where near as impressive as your's mind you but my game collection takes up a little more space!

Extra Tall Storage Tower
CD/DVD Tower with Door

Re: Post Your DVD/Bluray/HD DVD Collection

I only have a pitiful six Blu-Ray's, as I can't really justify replacing my Dvd collection as I am more than happy with Dvd's at this time. However, I will buy my absolute favourites again on Blu-Ray, as well as any particular Special / Limited / Collector's Edition that may take my fancy...

I currently have:

Reservoir Dogs ~ LE Petrol Can
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind ~ 30th Anniversary Edition
Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest ~ LE Cardboard slipcase
Batman Begins ~ LE Collector's Edition
Sweeney Todd ~ Steelbook
10,000 BC ~ Steelbook

Actually it's 3 more Definitive Edition releases: Conan the Barbarian, The Siege & The Terminator. I think they are OOP as I haven't seen them around for some time so I’ll have to chase them down on eBay or so.

As for Cinema Reserve then, yes, I have only two to get: Beyond the Valley of the Dolls & Valley of the Dolls. Looks of it these two are pretty rare as well. I haven't seen either of them in my local HMV and looks like Cinema Reserve went the same way as Definitive Edition i.e. they ran out of Steelbook editions and re-releasing them in standard packing and for that reason I’m afraid to buy them online as in most cases it's not specified weather it's Steelbook or not.

Which Steelbooks you didn't know about?

Oh yes, Sorry. I could've sworn your DVD Afictionado list said you had 32 Definitive Edition's - Just checked again and seen it says 31. I am still missing two myself - Planet Of The Apes and Predator II.

I used to upload my collection here, but found it to be quite a tedious chore to try and locate everything. I think I actually only ever managed to find around 50% of the Dvd's in my collection, as many of what I have is quite obscure and often I found they weren't on the site. There were other glitches as well which annoyed me about DVDAF, like how there would be multiple versions of the same release (In the case of AvP they have an 'Alien' cover and 'Predator' cover when in fact they are two sides of the same slipcase! Lol!) - Looking on there now, I can't even find half of the Steelbook's I currently own!!!

Terminator is one of the more common ones in my opinion. Conan is a more recent release, and may be harder to find than some of the others (I know Minority Report is notoriously hard to get hold of, as is Kingdom Of Heaven now too). The Siege I had a bit of trouble sourcing, but not as hard to find as some of them

You also have to be careful now as many of these Definitive Edition's have since started being rereleased in standard Amaray cases with cardboard slipcases only. I also noticed that some in the series (Such as Rocky) never came as a Steelbook at all. I also heard rumour of Flash Gordon, Robocop, Commando, and Stigmata being released as part of this series, as well as Xmen 3, but i'm not sure if Fox / MGM plan on releasing any more to compliment what is already out

Yes, indeed, both these are quite sought after and hard to find. I haven't even seen standard editions on sale either, and my HMV have even gone as far to remove the plastic title placard for both of these as well! I am still seeking six Cinema Reserves, the others being The Hustler, Kagemusha, Midnight Cowboy, and Day The Earth Stood Still - The last one is another one I see plenty of standard Amaray versions, but no Steelbook

I didn't know about the Appleseed: Ex Machina, Day Watch, Jesus Of Nazareth, and The Lives Of Others - I take it these are all UK R2's and not imported?

Yes, they are UK releases and apart from Jesus of Nazareth they were HMV Exclusives so probably you have a very little to none chance of finding them as, I believe, they are OPP, sorry .

Well, I suppose you could keep your eye on eBay .

Don't have any pictures at the moment as I am waiting to move house so I intend to set my new unit (attached pic) up then and get started.

Here's my list anyway.

CAS's virtual home |

To summarize:
  • 117+ DVD
  • 87 HD-DVD

That's 90%+ of what we have at the moment.

I don't have any steelbooks

Re: Post Your DVD/Bluray/HD DVD Collection

Those units are really really good! I have one of those units, plus five of the wider sliding door ones to store most of my games and Dvd's in, and I then have custom shelving above for bigger things like box sets etc.

I originally wanted to fix a second unit on top of another, but unfortunately I was about two inches too short on the height of my room to do this, otherwise it would've been a truly amazing display from floor to ceiling!

If anyone is interested, the units can be found here:

New York Frosted Glass Sliding Door Media Unit

Adjustable shelves allow for storage of up to 600CDs, 255 DVDs / Games

New York Frosted Glass Slimline Door Media Unit

Adjustable shelves allow for storage of up to 344 CDs, 116 DVDs / Games

Sweet. I picked up mine ages ago when it was half price, but I fancy the bigger one. I'll prob need it soon as well. And you have 5 , must be a big room.

Re: Post Your DVD/Bluray/HD DVD Collection

Here's my Blu collection.

That pic was taken a couple of weeks ago. Shelves had just been put up. Top shelf now has DVD's and middle shelf has 100 year old edison wax cylinders! Added 3 more BD's since that pic too. Oh, and filled in the holes in the wall.
