Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

Perhaps it's just me being impatient but I really had expected Paramount and/or Universal to have anounced a few Blu titles by now.
Paramount especialy are sitting on a couple of titles I want in my collection.I just hope There will be blood is their first Blu ray.

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

Maybe they are under contract to HD DVD, or maybe replication time is taken up for months by existing blu-ray studios, or maybe they are still getting to grips with BD-J, or maybe it's just a discreet wait for the sake of those still smarting over the war. I had a feeling this would happen though. I think many people thought Transformers or something would be out the day after the war finished. Bear in mind Fox is a blu-ray studio and has been since the start and they have constant delays and lack lustre releases.

From what i've read they are waiting for Toshiba to pay them as it was Toshiba who technically broke the contract. When that is settled they will start releasing with Transformers very high on the list.

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

Sonic is correct.

There simply isn't the replication capacity to cater for Paramount and Universal at this time.

Expect the new lines at Cinram and Sony to come online later this year. I'd guess late summer or early autumn.

If any of their releases to do appear beforehand, it will be as a result of schedule re-jiiging by other studios allowing small runs of discs to be produced.

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

While they're waiting for the production lines to come online, it would have been nice if they kept releasing HD DVDs until they could really switch to Bluray. It seems a wasted opportunity to get hidef products out to the consumer especially around new dvd releases after the oscars, i.e. There Will Be Blood, Cloverfield etc....all were originally slated for HD DVD releases!

Yes, it would have been nice.

But, alas, pleasing the consumer has not exactly been a priority during the format war - or it's immediate aftermath.

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

very true....but the hd dvd firesales are welcome!...if only someone dropped the price of Band of Brothers HD DVD then we're laughing!!

In all seriousness though the quality of releases (i.e. films, not transfers) needs to improve for the format to really take off....the more good films we get out to market the better!

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

As I already own all the old HD DVD releases I hope they don't spend ages re-releasing them on BD - I'd rather see them use their limited resources on something new.

Cloverfield, for one.

Problem is people would only buy them at a knock down price. So there isn't the money to be made.

Thumbs up Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

http://uk.reuters.com/article/intern...40482320080417

The studio is set to announce Thursday that the program will kick off in the summer with the recent box office flop "Doomsday."

Universal's Blu-ray strategy includes plans to release about 40 titles in the second half of the year.

Quote:
Among them are the studio's five big feature films of the summer, including "The Incredible Hulk," with Edward Norton, William Hurt and Liv Tyler; "Wanted," an action thriller starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie; "Hellboy II: The Golden Army"; "Mamma Mia," the adaptation of the musical starring Meryl Streep; and the sequel "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," with Brendan Fraser and Jet Li.

Universal officially will enter the Blu-ray market July 22 with a trio of films from its "Mummy" action-adventure franchise: "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns," both starring Fraser, and the spinoff "The Scorpion King," with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Also planned for domestic Blu-ray before the year is up are the catalog titles "American Gangster," "Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Miami Vice," "End of Days," "U-571" and "Land of the Dead," among others.

Paramount should reconsider Star Trek Remastered. It should balance out their books if they think about it. Making a new movie costs millions, but putting Star Trek on Blu Ray costs them what.. 20p a disk? (Including staff wages, electricity, all factors) I think the real problem is that it would take up all of their Burners... whatever they call them

Re: Where are the Paramount and Universal Blu Ray title announcements?

if they have to pay for master discs, cover design, booklet design, and only sell a couple of thousand copies what is the point.

they'll have to change all the stuff that was red for hddvd to blue or the fan boys will have a fit..

It works better... Red costumes die, and Blue costumes are higher ranked!

This will be because Toshiba was bankrolling the HD DVD Star Trek original series releases.

Universal's Blu-ray strategy includes plans to release about 40 titles in the second half of the year.
40 titles that's excellent news.

Out of the new movies mentioned though only "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" interests me as I own the first one on Blu-Ray and it is superb fun with very good PQ.

From the catalogue releases a big YES PLEASE to "American Gangster," and I also hope they do a good job with "U-571" as I've heard the previous Blu-Ray release isn't up to much.

Top stuff though ..... come on Paramount.
