The Orphanage will work if you use the region bypass trick.

Hello, long time reader first time writer.

When you say confirmed and tested you mean it has been tested with the workaround and doesn't work or just that it has been tested by bluray liesinc and it's region blocked per se?

Dvdslimited is breaking street date for golden compass this thursday, hope the workaround actually works on that one!

Someone posted in the DVDWorldUSA thread that they couldnt get their copy of Orphanage to run on their UK PS3 so I told them about the region bypass trick and they reported back that it worked.

I be scared to buy the US version even if the workaround does work. Who knows which future PS3 update might disable it.

Good news. I received the region A BD of The Orphanage today and can report that it DOES WORK with the bypass method on my UK PS3. I for one am very pleased!

have you updated the firmware? as apparently the shot'em up bypass doesnt work after the update!

Yes, still works! I could be wrong but I could only forsee a firmware update happening to prohibit the bypass if New Line were to push Sony for a fix. Whether Sony would do this of their own accord is another matter.

Good to know. My plan is to keep it until a UK version comes out and then sell it off and replace it (hopefully it will continue to work to that date).

I received my copy of The Orphanage from MT today and got it to work (with the 2.30 update)...although it took me several attempts to get it right. After selecting BDMV, I repeatedly pressed the green triangle until the pop-up menu appeared and then had to very quickly select 'top menu' before the "Region Incompatability" message. Had a quick flick through the opening chapters of the film and the PQ is stunning! That's tonights viewing sorted!

Where are you getting this info about the spanish release having poor PQ. I admit that the sound is only DTS but where does it say that the picture is poor.

Here is a babelfish translation of a review regarding the picture:

I get my info cuz mainly I live here in spain!!! and yes the quuality is poor. NEVER trust a review from zonadvd.com! they suck big time! there's a comparision of shots of the orphanage dvd vs. bd and man, the difference is not very big at all!! so my advice is get the US version. this one has some extras more over that one, but the DTS vs DTS HD MA just cuts it for me!

Well I received my spanish version today and I'm chuffed with it. Screen shots can be very unrealiable.
