Well, I've just called my Asda to reserve one...it is indeed £13.97. Its a Warner release so must be region free. I'm gonna risk it.

Re: The Assassination of Jesse James - Blu Ray - £13.97 at Adsa

I can totally confirm this as my local Asda in Falkirk has it for £13.97 as well. I logged in at my work to let you all know, but respect to biggles1958 for doin the necessary already.

Beowulf is going for £17.97 in ASDA as well which is comparable with online prices.

Just a small addition, while I was up the town I noticed that while Asda had Jesse James at £13.97, HMV were asking a whopping £24.99!

I'm gonna be busy tonight!

Can anyone confirm the UK audio options?
Was hoping we might get an upgrade from the US release.

If it's the same as the US version, then it does the job. Picture does look a little murky at times and I'd definitely never use it to show off HD to my mates, however it fits the tone of the film and I think it is meant to look like that. Sound is good, never really stands out but does what it needs to.

Film on the other hand is top class, one of my favourites in the last year or so. At £13.97 it's a no brainer in my opinion.

24.99 is more Pounds than I paid Dollars en Estado Unidos...we haven't converted to Pesos just yet.... Even 13.97 is proably more than I paid....I don't know today's exchange rate but it must be 2-1 in favour of Pounds, or more....? I think I paid $21...maybe less...? I'd have to go check.

The disc looks good when you consider that it was shot soft and muted. Sometimes they use fishbowl lenses for a distorted look, and there's quite a few shots done through olde-timey, imperfect glass windows. Those shots seem to freak out some viewers who jump to the conclusion that the encode is faulty.

The audio isn't very particularly demanding beyond the train robbery. Some might argue that the Dolby 640 track is inadequate but I'm doubting it. Now if Jesse would of had a spaceship instead of a horse maybe the audio format would of been inadequate...? It's a dialog-driven film and the dialog is crisp. It's so easy to discern Cassey Affleck's whiney voice.

It's a long film squeezed onto a 25 gig disc. It proably could look some better on a 50 gig disc? It smokes the DVD just the same. It wasn't a popular success in the cinemas and I feel we're lucky to have gotten it on HD at all.

By the end of the film, most will wish they were pulling the trigger on Robert Ford, Cassey Affleck's character....

dont normally play must attention to the back of the cases (as quite regularly they give incorrect specs) however I was in HMV and looked at the back of back of the JJ case (to see if it was an upgrade to my US version) which says its 480p! is this correct??

this is probably for a special feature on the disc. The movie must be 1080p

Noooooo ! I felt sorry for Bob at the end and was screaming <Spoiler>'don't kill him, don't kill him'. I've accepted it now though - hey you can't fight history and the ending was nicely done with the narration and freeze shots.

I knew the history going in, so, I didn't have to root. I'm just amused by how many folks online I've heard describe Cassey's voice as "whiney" or "squeaky". I think he did a bang-up job of creating an unlikable character. All I know is that if Casey was one of the seven dwarfs he'd be Wheezy.

I don't know of any Warner BD's with Wee-jun Kodes. I cannot confirm it's not the first though.

Re: The Assassination of Jesse James - Blu Ray - £13.97 at Adsa

Watched this last night.

The fim is absolutely stunning from start to finish, really enjoyed it.

As for it being on a BD25 and lacking lossless audio......

I feel the video has definitely suffered as whilst it doesn't look bad, I find the most obvious sign oif bitrate starvation tends to be during motion where the image just doesn't retain it's cohesion. It is OBVIOUSLY vastly better looking then any DVD though.......

Whilst I love lossless sound I feel that the restrained sound design is presented perfectly adequately with DD@640kb and may possibly not have been much better using lossless.

It's a shame about the video being less then stellar because the cinematography is some of the best I've ever seen.

Is there any specific way of finding the region encode on the disc with a PS3? It does state region B or Zone B or words to that effect on the back.

unfortunately boxes are not always accurate, the best way it to rely on others empiracal evidence and to ask here or check http://bluray.liesinc.net/

The 2nd disc of the SD DVD conatins the documentary that's on the Bluray so you get the same from the Bluray that you do on the regular DVD...from what I can see.

Wish my local Asda (Milton Keynes, the biggest one in Europe, so I'm told) had it

Not one Blu Ray disc anywhere, they used to have a small section last year but that disappeared and now nothing.
