Probably not time to release on Blu that quickly but I would imagine it would follow not too long after.

Not on HDDVD. Heat was mentioned last year but never materialised. I think most of the HDDVD releases now will be New titles, not much catalogue.

I was looking on the net to buy this last week and could'nt find any but I did find a lot of downloads that claimed to be Scarface HD-DVD rips, I did'nt download them but looked all over the net and could'nt find any to buy so I guess they were fakes.

Re: Godfather Trilogy HDDVD

I would be very surprised if the Godfather films still got released on HD-DVD. The format is over and surely for such a HUGE release they would axe the HD-DVD version and now release it on Blu-Ray?

Re: Godfather Trilogy HDDVD

The Godfather Trilogy HD DVD release looks kosher - they even have a price up for it.

Only £22.49.

That's only £7.50 per film.

BTW, Heat was mentioned by Warner in their upcoming high def plans. They have a HD master, but it's apparently not up to scratch, so they're gettinh Michael Mann in to supervise a new master as soon as possible.

It will probably get a release later this year or early '09.

Fingers crossed for the Godfather, despite me stating elsewhere that i am not that interested in upgrading dialogue driven movies to HD as i dont watch them on my PJ, the Godfather is the exception to that rule.
Heat is also another favourite of mine and i cannot wait for that as well, that will be BD only though if its after May this year.

Re: Godfather Trilogy HDDVD

Turns out Amazon were advertising the SD DVD as HD DVD so I've cancelled my preorder.

Quote:
We are writing to you with regards to your order for The Godfather
Trilogy [1972].

We have learned, due to a catalogue error, 'The Godfather Trilogy
[1972]' (B0014E917Y) is
actually not a HD DVD title as originally listed on our website, but a
standard DVD.
from Amazon email.

That and the fact that Paramount announced in the past 24 hours the names of their last two HD-DVD's which will be released.

Unfortunately for those with pre-orders this wasn't one of them.

Just ordered this from
http://www.dvd.co.uk/DVD/Godfather-T...duct.htm?sr=sa.
It's probably a mistake based on the same premise that Amazon listed theirs but I figured it's worth a punt, especially at that price.
Nothing lost if it doesn't happen.

I did get a confirmation email but that's probably an automated procedure so I wouldn't read too much into it. Happy to wait and see though.

Re: Godfather Trilogy HDDVD

I don't think theres much chance of seeing the Godfather films on HD DVD now

The studios seem to have abandoned HD DVD in a flash.

Ironically, it appears the WB, the studio that stuck the dagger in the heart of HD DVD, appears to be the last one out the door

Why is everyone ignoring this comment? (kourosh excepted).

I am sorry for those that pre-ordered, but Paramount announced their last two HD-DVD titles, "Into the Wild" and "Things We Lost in the Fire".

All other scheduled titles were cancelled.

Re: Godfather Trilogy HDDVD

A number of readers have seen this online (and thanks to all those of you who sent the link in), so we decided that it's finally time to comment on the subject. The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has just cleared 84 minutes worth of special features for a little something it refers to as The Godfather Trilogy Restored 2008 Bonus Disc. Yes, you read that right - The Godfather. Restored.

We can, in fact, confirm that The Godfather Trilogy has indeed been restored, and that our very own Robert A. Harris was involved in the project - a project backed by director Francis Ford Coppola and even Steven Spielberg no less (you can read a bit more on that here). The BBFC notice means that Paramount is likely planning to being The Godfather Trilogy Restored to DVD (and possibly even Blu-ray Disc) later this year. Note that we're posting all this in The Rumor Mill today, because the potential DVD release - and indeed the restoration effort itself - hasn't officially been announced by Paramount yet. As such, we don't have any more information for you right now than what we're offering here. But when the studio gives us the okay, and takes the cloak of secrecy off the project, Robert assures us that he'll have lots to say about it all for you here at The Digital Bits. So for those of you wondering why Robert's Yellow Layer Failure column hasn't been updated as often in the last year or so, NOW you know why. Hey... some things are just more important.
