Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

Now available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Contrary to some comments in the Format war thread Amazon doesn't seem to be loaded with warnings about buying HD DVD. Nevertheless I wonder what sort of sales rank this title will get given recent announcements?

Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

I hope Paramount have this prepped for a Blu-ray release. Word is they've been getting geared up for Blu-ray since the Warner announcement. It sends out the wrong message to release an Oscar front runner in HD-DVD.

If they were to release it in Blu-ray it would also illuminate Paramounts region coding policy when it came to titles whose international distribution rights belong to another.

Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

This HD-DVD release is up in the air now. It's likely to have been postponed on HD-DVD or completely scrapped. Either to allow for a simultaneous Blu-Ray release or Blu_Ray only.

Finger crossed for Best Picture on Sunday.

Link to what? The original press release announcing the title? If so such links are prohibited by the forum.

Nanny state

As regards to the Dolby TrueHD track, Very strange how Paramount are giving this a hi res track considering the type of movie. Transformers needed it and recently Beowulf.
Is it a parting shot from the studio before turning all their attention to Blu

I suspect its space on the discs.

Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

Could be that it's recognised this has a pretty classy soundtrack and they wanted to pull out all the stops to honour it. I firmly believe that a lot of the PQ and AQ is down to whoever authors the transfer, do they love the movie and if they do you get a great piece of work, if they don't you get a mediocre finish.

Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

Take a look in the avsforums topic about There Will Be Blood :

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=993304

Several people who pre-ordered them from Amazon have gotten emails saying that their pre-order has been cancelled due to Amazon not getting stock on that date from Paramount.

Re: There Will Be Blood (HD DVD)

hollywoodinhighdef.com have a TWBB trailer with a "on DVD and Bluray" card at the end.

Quote:
Although Paramount has removed 'There Will Be Blood' from its press site as reported below, the title may not in fact be cancelled. According to retail reports, the studio is still planning an April 8th release date, but has put an embargo on release details until March 4. (Details for the standard DVD have also been removed.)
I've also seen Charlie Wilson's War is listed on dvdslimited.com on Blu-ray as well as Bee Movie.
