Goodbye HD-DVD

With Toshiba announcing they're dropping the format today, what will that mean for the future of HD in the UK?

My main worry is the prohibitive costs of Blu Ray on the high street. Buying a Special Edition one day, then 6 months later the "Special Special Edition" of the same film which was released in the U.S. 6 months before. Hello region coding!!!! and compatibility of discs.

I am not a HD-DVD fanboy, over the last year or so I have been format neutral , just getting a film I wanted to see on whichever format. But I am concerned.....

Re: Goodbye HD-DVD

There is a huuuge thread on the future of HD-DVD in the appropriate forum. No need for another thread.

No way.

Didn't even know the announcement had been made but here it is;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7252172.stm

For some reason threads on this issue keep getting deleted from the HD Movies forum but surely this is the most appropriate one for the issue.

I'm just glad this farce is all over and perhaps HD disc media will now have time to flourish before downloading / on demand completely takes over as technology advances.

Re: Goodbye HD-DVD

The reason the threads keep getting deleted is because every man and his dog keeps posting a new thread on the same topic.

We just need one thread on this announcement please.

From a Mod perspective I hope this will remove the immense hassle with fanboys over the two formats. Unfortunately most of the blu-ray ones got themselves banned

Now we can just get on to discussion of the one format.
