V for Vendetta

Did this ever see a Blu Ray release?

Saw it on DVD last night and totally loved it- great sound mix.

I know if came out on HD DVD- but I'm not buying those anymore.

Re: V for Vendetta

Warner announced it'd be getting a Blu-Ray release along with Batman Begins and a few other HD-DVD only titles a week or two ago. No idea when, but it's on its way.

Re: V for Vendetta

no- I;ll keep my player and the HD DVD's I have, but I see point in buying anymore of them.

I did read a review on the HD version and it does sounds very good- maybe if its in a bargain bin I might- but as its Warner there will be a BD version soon I guess.

I agree with Adam - even if you own a HD-DVD player, it's a risk buying further HD-DVDs. It's all well and good while your player is working, but if it breaks down, you'll be left with lots of pretty red boxes containing unplayable discs. I had to replace my first DVD player 2 years after i bought it, so this isn't me being pessimistic or a fanboy!

With 1 million odd HD DVD players 'out there' I'm sure you would be able to get a cheap replacement on Ebay or elsewhere...

If you own one single HD DVD disc you need a HD DVD player. So what is the difference between owning 1 disc or 100? In the end of the day the XE1 is a superb player that will hold it's own up against the competition for years - 1080p/24 output, HDMI digital bitstream output for all audio formats, full PiP capability, superb build, excellent picture etc. Why waste such a capable machine - especially with so many people desperate to sell their discs off at such wonderfully cheap prices.

Re: V for Vendetta

I agree its not worth dumping my current collection- but buying more of them is maddness.

There will be BD versions of EVERY HD DVD out at the moment, so why create a potential issue for ones self.

If/ when the player dies I'll replace my HD DVD collection over the player

I'm sure there will - but how long will it take? It has taken Universal 2 years to get where they are now with releases - odds are it will take at least another 2 to get to the same point with Blu-ray releases if they start releasing titles tomorrow. And that is before you factor in new releases taking up slots in the schedule, increased competition with other studios and time to 'learn' BD authoring tools.

And even when titles do appear on Blu-ray will they simply be the HD DVD encodes re-used? If so where is the upgrade? Better to wait until the second gen re-release five or six years down the line.

Re: V for Vendetta

But your compounding the issue- you will never buy a brand new player which you will get retailer/ manufacturer support from (I would never buy a second hand player)

New discs will never be pressed, there are no new releases. All I could buy are films already out that I've not got.

In such cases I'll wait for the BD to be released- buying the HD DVD would be flogging a dead horse.

You have the XE1 - why would you want a new player? Personally I have never had a standalone optical disc player break on me - I don't see why the XE1 would be any different.

What does that matter? If you want the films why wait?

But if the player did break I'd be making it worse the more films I owned.

If you got kidnapped by foreign terrorists and brutally murdered you'd be making it worse the more films you owned!

Re: V for Vendetta

ha yes, the player could be stolen, I could drop it when I move house etc etc.

If you or anyone else wants to carry on buying HD DVD thats fine- I just dont see it as a good use of my money.

Can we get back on topic of V for Vendetta, rather than Adams decision to not buy anymore HD-DVDs please.

Re: V for Vendetta

Fantastic movie, looks and sounds great on the optical HD format it was released on a year ago and no question it will look and sound as good when it's released on another HD optical format.

It was one of the movies that swayed me back in 2006

It was my first HD DVD. Bloody fantastic apart from Natalie's accent. You can't go wrong with this otherwise.

Indeed- really enjoyed the film, good mix of action and characterization. Great effects, very arty.

Agree on the red artwork on the blu box- but looks like I'll have to live with it lol
