Re: Beowulf Hd Dvd

Don't know if this is important to you or not, but I believe the US Paramount HD-DVD may only have DD+ on it. Over here in the UK, distribution lies with Warner who will release on Blu + HD-DVD and it seems that both will be getting TrueHD... It's a bit later than the Paramount US release, and the UK HD-DVD is three weeks behind the BD, but, it may be worth waiting if you'd prefer a TrueHD soundtrack.

It won't be in 3D. It was only 3D on digital 3D screens or Imax

Re: Beowulf Hd Dvd

US release, according to High-Def Digest (Dolby TrueHD confirmed by MovieTyme)
Quote:
They've now confirmed the release and issued full specs, which include a full second disc of extras. In addition to a never-before-seen Director's Cut, the set includes a 16-part documentary "The Making of 'Beowulf,'" plus a dozen Deleted & Alternate Scenes. All of the bonus content will also be presented in full HD.

Exclusive to the HD DVD will be additional web-enabled content still to be announced.

Tech specs boast 1080p/VC-1 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio, plus optional Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround dubs and subtitles in English, French and Spanish.
So £17.98 for the Warner Home Video UK single disc from Amazon or £17.99 for the Paramount 2 disc director's cut three weeks earlier

Re: Beowulf Hd Dvd

The early information indicated the US version would have TrueHD and then images of the back cover showed it only has DD+. So the UK are getting it with TrueHD, which is the reverse of Bourne Ultimatum. I was hoping HD DVD wouldn't be like the varied feature sets of DVD.

Overseas distribution rights is held by Warner. But expect Warner to use VC-1.

Doesn't seem very legal, them doing that but it's them that would get in trouble for it I suppose.

I presume release dates are meant to be stuck too and the film studios have them for a reason. There must be some legal issues involved if companies ignored these as they would get extra business compared with the companies sticking to them. The release dates must be there for a reason.

Re: Beowulf Hd Dvd

I've always believed oneline dealers post early to make sure their customers get the release in line with the high street.

There has been civil action started in the US after some online dealers shipped Harry Potter (the novel) which resulted in some customers getting them before the official release date but I suspect the high profile nature of that product means more than a few hundred copies of a DVD/HD disk.
