Hi Folks,

Maybe this is the wrong forum to ask - but i was thinking over how pretty much every dvd i have ever watched has a Dolby Digital or DTS add before the movie starts - on HD DVD or Blue Ray i havent seen such adds. If say Dolby digital or DTS Master or Dolby True HD are included on discs - then do the studios have to pay royalty fees to the owner of the relevant codec for each disk?

I presume if the answer is yes that if they included PCM instead of a DTS Master track or Dolby True HD track that it could result in cheaper disk prices?

I'm just a bit stumped as to why FOX are using DTS Master audio on their blue rays.. i'm sure it sounds great, but why not use PCM instead and reduce the price of their disks?

I brought up the subject of Dolby Digital trailers recently on the Movies
Forum.

Don't know what DVDs you've been watching recently but I haven't seen any trailers (DD or DTS) on a SD DVD or at the cinema in years, let alone HD/BD. Nobody gave a definite answer as to why they don't use trailers much anymore. My guess is that it's a bit patronising and modern day audiences don't need to be constantly told that it's in DD or DTS
