Question HD-DVD Query - Flipper HD-DVD's

Hi,

Just a quick question, as it was something I'd not noticed before on a Hi-Def DVD.

I note on the back of "Flag Of Our Fathers", that the film is on Side A, and the extras on Side B - hence, it's essentially a "flipper" disc.

Is this a simple mistake on the packaging, or do HD-DVD's and/or Blu-Ray discs sometimes need to be flipped over?! If so, what on earth are companies doing, when the space on an HD format DVD should be enough to get everything on one side of the disc, in a dual-layer format, without the need to flip the disc over? Failing that, are companies just being stupid, and not using the new HD format to its proper specs, like in the early days of regular DVD discs? Or am I simply being really stupid here?

If I had to flip the disc over, then that just seems mad, as no one likes "flipper" discs, irrespective of the format the film/show is on!

Re: HD-DVD Query - Flipper HD-DVD's

I never thought of them as flippers. Flippers to me are the old versions of Starship troppers, Armageddon etc which are split in the middle during the film. Even those didn't bother me. I have laserdiscs that have to be flipped/changed discs three or four times.

Maybe it's a version of a combo disk. HD film on one side. SD extras on the other.

Re: HD-DVD Query - Flipper HD-DVD's

i think you must mean a combo disc. It's a normal SD DVD one side and the HD DVD on the other side

Re: HD-DVD Query - Flipper HD-DVD's

Because Flags was published by Paramount in the US, who use 2 discs on their special editions and Warner UK normally try to stick with a single disc, they put the HD movie on one side and the HD extras on the other.

So essentially it is a flipper and to my knowledge the only one.
