Harry Potter Years 1-5: Limited Edition Giftset
Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same

BOURNE! I would love to see this out-sell everything else for ther year. It's clearly the best of the year's blockbusters.

December 18, 2007

HD DVD Only:

Balls of Fury
The Moody Blues: Lovely to See You - Live
R. Kelly Live - The Light It Up Tour
Roy Orbison: A Black & White Night
Stardust

Blu-Ray Disc Only:

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - ALREADY ON HD DVD
Underdog (2007)

Both Formats:

Blade Runner (Complete Collector's Edition)
Blade Runner (Ultimate Collector's Edition)
That’s Entertainment: The Complete Collection

It should be all about The Simpsons Movie. But is it just me, or is there a distinct lack of...well, anything about this film. It didn't flop. Nobody said it was poor. A lot of people apparently enjoyed it. But there just doesn't appear to be any buzz about it. Given that it was quite well-reviewed, it should have been the box office hit of the year, but it barely made the Top 10.

December 26, 2007

HD DVD Only:

Cat People (1982)
Eastern Promises
The Heartbreak Kid
The Kingdom (2007)
Timecop

Blu-Ray Disc Only:

Rush Hour 3 - ON HD DVD EARLY NEXT YEAR

Both Formats:

Pan's Labyrinth

I wonder if HD DVD haven't played a blinder here. Two relatively small, but well-received films arrive this week: The Kingdom and Eastern Promises. Both are very recent, and both appear to fit the bill for good selling titles. Rush Hour 3 was much bigger at the cinema - bigger than both these put together, but it was a stinker of a yawnfest of a trilogy-completer. It'll be interesting.

Re: New US releases for December

I will be picking up the following:

Battlestar Galactica: Season One
The Bourne Ultimatum

The Simpsons Movie
Blade Runner (Complete Collector's Edition)
Eastern Promises
The Kingdom (2007)

Battlestar Galactica is the highlight of that lot - the best show on TV at present IMHO.

Re: New US releases for December

For myself.

AT RELEASE:

Bourne 3
Harry Potter 5
Stardust
Blade Runner (the whole damn suitcase full )
Eastern Promises
The Kingdom

LATER, IN A QUIET WEEK:

Independence Day
Harry Potters 1-3
The Simpsons Movie
Pan's Labyrinth

Obviously, the two FOX Blu-ray Discs will have to be the UK releases for RC reasons.

Totally agree - Galactica is an amazing show. I've just sold off my first 3 Seasons on SD-DVD in preparation for the jump to HD-DVD. It's just a shame Universal aren't putting Razor out at the same time as S1...that really would have been the cherry on top.

Agreed. I assume it will end up as part of the Season 4 HD DVD boxset. Hopefully Universal will get a wriggle on with Season 2 and 3 on HD DVD so we cn have Season 4 day and date with the DVD release. If not I can see myself buying Razor and Season 4 on DVD just months before re-buying on HD DVD.

No way... Galactica is good... But The Wire is simply the best show TV has ever seen, words can't express how brilliant it is.

Now if only HBO would release it on an HD format, hell, I'd even settle for anamorphic SD!

Re: New US releases for December

My OP now completed with the traditional Peckercommentary.

BTW, how many people do you think will wade through all 26 versions of Blade Runner?

Re: New US releases for December

Thanks.

Yes, I do.

September

October

November

If I had more time I'd add UK releases, too.

It's not really a truly altruistic act - I do it to remind myself what I need to budget for, so I might as well post it.

BTW, I think Blade Runner is over-rated...but still good, and the new cut may raise it higher. It's certainly a very interesting film.

And as someone who's liked Philip K Dick since I was a kid, and Film Noir for much of my film-enjoying life, not to mention someone partial to the odd bit of sci-fi, it's a must-buy.

Re: New US releases for December

I've had a fair chunk of my purchases recently. Cars, Ratatouille, Robocop, Close Encounters and Edward Scissorhands.

For the remainder of the year I just have the Die Hard box set, Blade Runner and Pirates III (didn't like it but I have the other two so might as well)
