Sony Joins Profile 1.1 Party with 'Resident Evil: Extinction' Blu-ray

Quote:
The latest studio to announce plans for its first Profile 1.1 Blu-ray title, Sony's 'Resident Evil: Extinction' is shaping up to be its most technologically advanced BD release yet.

As we've previously reported, the studio first alerted retailers that it was planning a January 2, 2008 Blu-ray release for the third film in 'Resident Evil' franchise late last month. Although Sony declined to release supplemental details at the time, full specs for the title are now in, and they seem sure to impress

Among the Blu-ray exclusives planned for the disc are two Profile 1.1-enhanced features -- the "Under the Umbrella" video commentary (Sony's first true picture-in-picture track), and "Blu-Wizard 2.0," a newly-energized version of the studio's disc search content and organization interface, which will now "memorize" how you've watched content and store it for future access even after you eject the disc from the player....

Additional supplements shared with the standard-def DVD version of the film (which is debuting day-and-date with the Blu-ray) include an audio commentary with director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt, four making-of featurettes, eleven deleted scenes, and two video game demos (for "Devil May Cry 4" and "Resident Evil 5").Cont Here
This looks cool, i can feel another box set coming on.....

I'm looking forward to seeing it on BR, however I don't expect the basic PIP to be very exciting..

I'm not even going to guess when we might see this in the UK? anyone know?

I said this before when it incorrectly looked like T:3 would be the first 1.1 release, but the sameapplies here.

What an odd choice!

I'd have thought they'd have wanted Spider-Man 3, or POTC 3, or something similar.

This film is 40th in the year's box office, taking half as much as Evan Almighty, and it hardly received glowing reviews.

I guess too many people won't complain if it's delayed or doesn't work then.

I'm not sure they want to release a 'high profile' title with 1.1 as yet.

It is as if Studios are wary of the potential consequences of releasing 1.1 titles when there will very few compliant players around.

The potential for disc returns and complaints could be huge.

Still, back on topic, it's good to see 1.1 titles on the horizon despite the 'merits' of the title in question.
