What's your Favourite HD-DVD(s)

Hi everyone, sorry if there is a thread like this, but I have a HD-DVD player and I have bought a few films for it (matrix/king kong/300/transformers/heroes) and i am just a bit stuck on what else to buy!

So, I figured asking you guys which are your favourites so I can get some insparation!

Also could someone give me a link to a decent 'upcoming' HD-DVD list

Thanks :P

Some HD-DVD's I'm happy with that you didn't mention:

Aeon Flux, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Happy Feet, One Six Right, and Bourne Identity.

Also see the picture quality lists I mentioned here.

Re: What's your Favourite HD-DVD(s)

You know what, I'm not sure I have one yet.

I have lots of favourite DVDs, which I've watched 3 or 4 times...okay 13 or 14 times. But so far there's no HD DVD I've watched more than once, simply because I'm still wading through all the one's I've got.

Off the top of my head, I wouldn't mind revisiting King Kong, Blood Diamond, Mission: Impossible(s), Dog Day Afternoon, Harry Potter 4, Children of Men, and Casablanca. Indeed, I'm sure I will.

But the trick isn't to pick films that look good.

The trick is to pick great films that dopn't look bad.

Dog Day Afternoon is a good example. It doesn't look WOW!, but it looks far better than SD DVD. Indeed, I can't see any pixel/line structure at all. It's very sharp, and the colour is great.

But above all it's a fantastic film. It's a film I can watch on my projector and enjoy thoroughly for the film itself, without having to worry about it looking soft like an SD DVD would on such a large screen.

Transformers looked absolutely extraordinary, but I doubt I'll watch it again, unless I'mn showing it to the kids someday.

Re: What's your Favourite HD-DVD(s)

Apart from what's been mentioned,

Shooter, Serenity, Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift, Batman Begins, Children of Men, Feast and last but not least, The Last Samurai.

Oh and they are IMO good films that look and sound great!

Have a look here for inspiration. Linky

Re: What's your Favourite HD-DVD(s)

Like someone mentioned above Transformers has eye-popping PQ but I'll put pins in my eyes before I watch it again.

Regarding quality movies that also perform in the image quality stakes, The Searchers, The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Host, Casablanca, Batman Begins and 2001 come to mind.

Well, it is a great HD-title none the less..

As a movie Happy Feet isn't so great, but the picture quality and several key moments are super on HD! A definite buy!

I bought most of my 60+ HD-titles on dvdpacific, One Six Right I had to buy on amazon.com. It is a great looking and interesting documentary about aviation.

Owning the first two Bourne's I didn't bother with a box set. I bought them for around 20 euro a piece. Pretty sure there isn't a box set much cheaper than 60 euro's.

Re: What's your Favourite HD-DVD(s)

Out of the 20 or so HD-DVD's I've watched the one that stands out is "U571"
There's a DTS soundtrack on it and with a good surround sound setup it sounds amazing. I thought I was on the submarine during the depth charge scene.

Another good movie I watched lately was "The Pianist". The picture quality was very good. Sound quality okay.

Batman Begins is a must for HD DVD owners.

I watched Children Of Men (US Combo) on my shiny new EP30 recently and I was very impressed. Outstanding PQ, lots of detail etc, nice extras and a superb film.

I would say yes but I suppose it depends on how much you liked the film.
I say you probably had the matrix on SD.
Why buy the HD version?

For me it's because you want to see a great movie in it's best possible format.
