Pan's Labyrinth - Which HD version are people buying?

We have at least 4 choices:
  • UK Blu-ray
  • UK HD-DVD
  • US Blu-ray
  • US HD-DVD

Anyone know which will be the best?

Re: Pan's Labyrinth - Which HD version are people buying?

Gone for the US Blu-Ray release personally.

Both the HD-DVD and BD US releases have DTS HD MA 7.1, where as the UK one's have DD+, which was enough for me to plump for the US release. Prefer audio/video over extra's but the UK and US releases look fairly similar in those respects.

I believe the US HD-DVD has some web enabled content that the BD version doesn't.

Not that I'm aware of. French set is no use if you need the English subs. I don't believe a Japanese release has been announced yet, so you have a chance with that one - although they haven't been going overboard with super duper special edition HD yet.

"Exclusive to the high-def versions will be an enhanced picture-in-picture video commentary with cast & crew interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, while the HD DVD will also enjoy web-enabled content (to be announced at a future date)."

US HD-DVD appears to have the most features out of all of them.

If the HD-DVD will be region free, then why bother making the blu-ray region locked!

So, any confirmation as to whether or not the American HD DVD will be Region Free?
I'd rather go with this one for the DTS, I don't mind hanging on till the later release date either but if it's coded then that'll be a problem.
I still haven't seen or heard otherwise to suggest it won't be from that shot of the back of the sleeve not so long back that was put out on the web.

The US HD DVD will be region free as there is no regoin coding on HD DVD. The question is, will the US Blu version be region coded.

Shame the THX certified version isn't in English nor does it have English subtitles

Has there been updated artwork of the sleeve floating the web lately that I've failed to miss then?
I know that HD DVD are Region Free but when the artwork was first released it did send out mixed message. Back then, and even now I'm still favouring the idea that the Artwork was just a error on that part but as nothings been mentioned in the meantime, plus with the UK version looming I needed to know.
Hell, I'm even aware of New Line's position in the HD market to stagger their HD DVD releases because of their views with region coding.

On a different note to my rambling, how will the transfers measure up? Seing that on the one hand the UK standard def version had a better image transfer than the US disc where as they had the superior audio.

US Blu-Ray is my preferred choice...but i'll hang on to see if it's region free. If it's not, I'll be going for the UK Blu-Ray.

I've pre-ordered the US HD DVD as it appears to offer a lot more over the UK version.

Region coding is only relevant on HD DVD if it's a combo. To add it to the players would proabably need at least another update. I think the likely think is they sent it off to an art studio that didn't know any better or something.

Totally agree. The only thing that does fester in the back of my mind, if ever it were to surface sometime down the line where HD DVD are concerned, apart from a firmware update to lock the player... is another RCE clone encoded in the actual disc.

Re: Pan's Labyrinth - Which HD version are people buying?

HD DVD is regionless currently, and the 'format leaders' have said on numerous occasions that IF (BIG if) they ever added region coding then it would not be back dated to players that have already been sold as regionless. It would also be illegal.
