Dunno

The HD-DVD version has DTS-HD MA if it matters..

The BR version only has DD and DTS-ES according to HiDefdigest, oh and it's a BD25 MPeg 2 ???

I've been sitting on the fence on this one for quite some time but it appears to me that the Blu-Ray camp are having difficulty in getting their act together, plus their prices are (generally) far too high still.

Meanwhile, Toshiba just seem to march along getting things right and therefore, just this week, I took the decision to go ahead and buy an HD-DVD machine. I have an HD-EP30 on order which, as far as I know, I should receive tomorrow (Thursday).

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

I got the original Lionsgate (US) Terminator 2 Blu-ray release but returned it because it was a poor MPEG2 transfer. I have subsequently purchased the UK Terminator 2 HD DVD which is alot better but is the extended edition rather than the theatrical cut (I don't mind this personally). There were rumours of a special edition Blu-ray release but these have gone quiet. The next big release is the fully interactive German HD DVD release next month.

I'm sure the OP will agree thats THE HD version of T2 to own!

Wonder what the ETA is now... Think I'll stick with my current order and sell it on the forums when the new version comes out as this was my DTS-HD MA demo disc when the new Tosh players arrive, been waiting months for this.. can't cancel now!

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

I have the UK directors cut HD DVD. Great picture, good sound, NO extras. Not a sausage. and the calibration thingy that comes on the disc is pile of arse, but it was always about the film for me.
In answer to the question, I read that the HD DVD is superior in PQ.

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

Having re-read the posts in this thread, I realise now that I should have read it properly the first time and I would have seen that it was about a movie, and not the different formats of players - see post #3.

Just ignore me.

Cheers,

Martin.

The Studio Canal version is the French release, I think.

This is the UK version here http://www.sendit.com/video/item/7001000137511

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

I normally refuse to watch youtube due to the horrible quality, but I am glad I did this time or I would have wasted my cash on a poor version of T2.

Defo going to wait for the German release now, as I have both a toshiba hd-ex1 and a pioneer lx70a I don't mind which format I get it in, as long as it has the best picture, sound and extras !

Does anyone know any net sellers this can be preordered for UK delivery from? Any release date? Amazon.de don't seem to know about it.

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

As far as HD-DVD is concerned the UK has DTS-HD HR but the French DTS-HD MA.

The French has both cuts but the UK only the Extended Cut. The subs are forced on the French Theatrical Cut though. The USA BD has DD5.1 or DTS but using the DTS causes the video to break up (check out the DVD Talk review). It's also awful quality as others have said.

Right now the UK HD-DVD is probably the way to go but personally I'm waiting for the German HD-DVD which will have lots and lots of extras:

Where do you have confirmation the German HD-DVD is coming next month? It's not listed at Amazon.de.

Re: T2 Blu Ray ot Hd-dvd

Nice little comparison there Sonic.

There is also a Dutch HD-DVD which from what I can gather is essentially the same as the UK HD-DVD. I say essentially as I don't know about subtitles or dub soundtracks. I do know it's the Extended Cut and has some form of DTS-HD.

Obviously the one worth keeping an eye on is the German HD-DVD though. Sadly if you're BD locked you'll have to make do with the inferior (to all HD-DVDs) USA BD!

To me BD and HD-DVD are like different regional codes on DVD. I'd never buy a single region DVD player, nor would I limit myself to just one HD Region (aka - Format). That's just my opinion though.
