Well, before everyone else has a pop at it, can I just say that I've always loved this film. This was the first film I bought on DVD when my wife bought me a surprise birthday pressie of my first dvd player.

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

Have to stick my oar in and say it's only one of a handful films that I've switched off after only a few minutes in.

Definitely won't be buying this, despite what "Markoos" just said

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

Me too.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't brilliant, nor as good as it should have been, but it was alright.

And it'll look great in HD.

Certainly one the young 'uns can watch with the parents, without the parents getting too bored.

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

It was OK until the mini godzilla's got released and it went from being a fairly serious stab @ being Godzilla into a family laugh fest....

So another film I don't want. Don't really want to buy films with the proviso of "they look good in hd".

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

This is one of those films that you know is dire when you're sitting through it but end up watching it a few times because it's on TV a lot; otherwise known as a 'guilty pleasure'. I think the most annoying thing about the film is that it has about 3 moments when you expect it to end but it just keeps going.

I couldn't agree more.

But I don't think that Godzilla is a 'bad' film.

It does have the saving grace of being something you can sit through for 2 hours without getting too bored, and has several edge-of-the-seat moments, so there's a bit of fun and excitement.

But I already have that on SD. The HD will give me an excuse to watch it again on my big screen.

What I really object to is when I've bought films like 'Serenity', which look great in parts, but are shockingly dull and uninteresting.

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

Oh yeah. Its alright. But having watched it, I don't find myself thinking "I need to put this in my collection". If I was ever to get something to be a bit of a showcase, I'd go for Planet Earth.

Oh yeah. Agree with Serenity. Reviews gave it a nice writeup but I just found it lacked a certain amount of punch to it.

Will 'make do' with upscaled LOTR for now!

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

I've quite enjoyed watching godzilla on SD dvd about 3 times over the past couple of years,
at least it isn't in my "watched once...never again" pile !
as for serenity.. the problem with this sci fi fantasy movie is...
where are the aliens ?
I wouldn't bother double dipping godzilla in hi def though, even if I could play blu ray discs.

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

Wayyyyy OT.

But anyone watched Critters 4 and thought there were a lot of similarities to Serenity? And not just one of the actors? Spooky..

Godzilla?

Re: Sony Announce "godzilla"

I'd be more excited if it was one of the Toho movies, personally.

All the US Godzilla amounted to was a fantastic ad campaign followed by a mediocre movie.
