300 HD-DVD - grainy?

Recieved my copy of 300 on HD-DVD today, together with Matrix Collection.

Not sure if anyone else has noticied this, but 300 does look fantastic - ive watched it before on regular DVD - and was hoping for a real visual treat, however, im a little dissapointed.

The picture seems a little grainy, or sandy even?

Having now watched the first Matrix film, which looks stunning by the way, the first part of the film, is Neo in the Matrix, unaware of the true nature of things and there that green hue, used by the makers to highlight that this was the matrix.

Im just wondering if the grainy effect in 300 is a silimar ploy by its film-makers? - Its Ancient Greece afterall... hmm

This is what the director intended, how it was filmed.. not a fault in the transfer to disc.

Chris did a fantastic review of the film, as always including technical aspects of the video and sound, here...

Thanks Keith...

I assumed as much, but wasn't sure...

Read the review now, excellent stuff.

I shall watch it again and admire it for how the director intended!

I prefer the SD side of my combo version because the grain seems to dance about on the HD side

Wait till the HD versions of Grindhouse (if ever), grain will be the least of your worries.
