Do you import your high Def disks?

With UK media tending in most cases to be more expensive than their American counterparts I wondered what percentage of people import their movies.

About 75% of my films are imported. The few others I have are from ASDA/Game.

Re: Do you import your high Def disks?

I have The Holiday, The Island and Harry Potter :GOF from the UK, the rest of my discs are imported from the US.

Not something that is likely to change untill the average high def title drops below £14 here.

Although if I buy a duel format player it would probably be a UK one (since my DVD's are region 2) so then I'd be buying any region encoded blu-rays from the UK.

I import the vast majority of my HD DVD discs but most of my Blu-ray discs were bought from this country due to region coding.

I Import most of mine too. I like the reaction of peoples faces when I invite them over to watch a movie that is still showing over here at the cinema.

Or not showing at all as was the case with 'Disturbia' which I received on US HD DVD in late July but wasn't released on cinema here until early September.

Re: Do you import your high Def disks?

Dual format and import 80% of disks.

UK/European HD-DVD exclusives (HP:GoF, The Island, First Blood, Rambo, Total Recall) bought from game stores (after trading in old games to offset the ridiculous asking price).

GameStop in Stockport does have a good selection of region B BDs at good prices (Talledega Nights, Flatliners, Hostel, Open Season, Hellboy) so have picked some of these up there.

However, now that space is a premium in my home cinema, I tend to go for US disks for the reduced width of the case. Sad I know......

Mine are all imports apart from a couple of films that havn't been available in the US and Serenity which had a better transfer on the UK version.

Re: Do you import your high Def disks?

I would say out of my 35 titles, 30 are imported from the US. I save around 25-30% every time.

much thinner cases too, a minor point but takes up less shelf space.

Now....................I am waiting for my thanks Noggin

Re: Do you import your high Def disks?

Because i hope to pick up a PS3 soon (£299 rumoured one) where is the cheapest place online to buy UK Blu-Ray movies.

I understand that a large number are not Region coded but i mean titles like Rocky Balboa, SAW 3 ect. I don't particularly want to pay the £30 or so that HMV are charging

I have 34 HDDVD's and the only one I have ever bought in the UK is The Matrix trilogy (only because it was £25).
I will continue to import until such times as the prices are brought in line with the US and other countries.
RIP off Britain - You bet

If I couldn't import I wouldn't own a standalone HD player of any sort at this time, the UK market for either format both price and range is unappealing.

You certainly may have my thanks, not really free though, I was interested to see if the reality of the situation backed up my thoughts and you guys were kind enough to indulge me.

Re: Do you import your high Def disks?

Dual formatter and I have imported the majority of my films to date. Will buy UK if cheaper or if I want to avoid a combo disc. Was waiting for 300 on noncombo UK HDDVD but then went dual format and imported it on BluRay instead. I bet I'm not alone on the combo thing so if Tosh/MS want HDDVD to "win" then they better start getting studios to quit with the combo discs because not only are they losing out on sales but they will be losing them to their rival.

I also refuse to pay £20+ for a movie; multidisc boxset yes but single movie no.
