Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

Going to have a dash to the nearest HMV in my lunch hour as I understand both 300 & Cars are out Blu-Ray today - but can't really see anything to confirm them on HMV's site or on Amazon - can anyone confirm they are out?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about HMV... but ASDA sell both BR and HD-DVD, they had billboards up advertising the release of 300 on DVD, BR and HD-DVD for the last week or so..

It's out today, and they had the movie soundtrack playing through the tannoy system (asda radio) as part of a long advert for the film release today... (no mention of HD-DVD or BR in the advert)

So I went to the movie section to see how much for the HD versions, as ASDA often seem to sell very cheap on day of release to get people through the door and then put prices back up to normal. But they only had SD no HD at all !! Very disapointing as they have been selling both HD flavours for a while now and this is one of the biggest releases so far for both formats...

Not that it bothers me personally as I've had the HD-DVD version for weeks now, but not great for getting HD 'out there!'

Any sign of Cars? Promised it to the 3 yr old after he wrecked the DVD version...

Will probably have a drive through anyway, even if I dont find the films I might treat myself to a Subway foot-long as consolation.

I got 300 on bluray over the weekend. Picture is good, nothing special, but the sound is excellent. Enjoyed it alot more than I did in the cinema. I love the phrase "blood drunk"!

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

Think the cheapest I've seen 300 for on HD DVD and Blu Ray in the high street is £19.99 at Gamestation. They had Cars Blu-Ray coming out in the next few weeks on their release list, but 300 is definitely out today! Also the 300 HD DVD is not a combo as expected.

I'm always a bit confused about ASDA. For a retailer they have keen pricing (compared to Virgin and HMV) but the product range seems bizarre sometimes. Big releases such as Pirates of the Caribbean eventually turn up weeks after being released while back catalogue titles such as Deja Vu and Casino Royale remain in the range.

I occasionally pop in when I know a big release is out in the hope that it's in and priced up competitively. However, I've been disappointed quite a lot recently.

Or maybe it's just the store in question.

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

Agree on the '300', got mine from Gamestation on Saturday morning.

When I got there though it was a bit of a decision as they had in on Blue-ray and HD DVD Wasn't quite sure which one to take, plumped for the Blue-ray in the end............not sure if one is better than the other.

Does anyone else ever have this ???

I think it must be the store... the one in Trafford Park, often, but not always.. has any major SD release for under £10 on the day it is released... such as Casino Royale.. think it was £8 or something silly the day it came out, then next time I looked a few days later it was £15 ish again.. Although thats probably the last one I remember... apart from cars in SD I think they did the same then but that was a while ago.. Keep an eye on the papers, if your curious about any deals with new releases as they appear to have large ads most of the time if they are doing so.

Sorry didn't check SD price of 300 today...

Funnily I've found ASDA online is far better priced than instore for HD. Sometimes equalling the online imports..

PS. 300 listed on ASDA online for £17.47, I expect BR to be the same as they are usually the same price for dual releases..

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

I got 300 on HD DVD this morning, from sendit.com. Good picture, great sound.
The two versions have different extras so if you're multiformat decide whether you want the game, blue-screen comparison PiP track and favourite scene-compiler web thing off the HD DVD or the audio commentary off the Blu Ray/DVD edition.

I do, but usually go for Blu-Ray as I can then do audio over HDMI, where as with my 360 HD DVD add on I can't. This may change if I get a new Toshiba 3rd gen player. Also I got my 300 Blu-Ray from the states, if I got it on HD DVD from there would have also been a combo, which the 360 add on could have had problems with too.

I think if I'd had a stand alone HD DVD player, I'd have gone for the UK release of 300 on HD DVD, just for the extras as audio and picture are suppose to be identical. But that's me.

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

With '300' being such a big seller in the states, maybe this is the one they want to try dipping their toes in the water.

Alas, with HD DVD (and Warner BD) being Region Free, internet pricing being so much cheaper, and high def early adopters so much more tech-savvy, I think they might find that sales are poor.

The UK version of the HD DVD is one-sided and not a flipper like in the states. Which is nice.

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

Any news on Cars?HMV says they got it on stock but there is no information about the disc itself. Is it the same as the US version?Because if it is,it's a chance to get the movie 2 months before it's released on the US.

God,I hate it when sites release no information about the disc content that they're selling .Amazon.co.uk is a mess right now regarding HD,many titles are not even sold or announced on the site an the ones that do are only available 2 weeks later. What a mess...

Re: Can anyone confirm 300 & Cars on UK Blu-Ray?

Ref Cars, the release of the film in the US was delayed, it was originally supposed to be earlier this year. So I suspect that the UK release was put back at the same time, but some UK retailers never updated their database. Or maybe there isn't an official UK release date yet.
I think we will have to wait for the US release and hope it isn't region locked.
