Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

from here:
guess not long to wait to see if the rumour is true... apologies if this is being discussed in other threads...

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=17975

Hello,
I'm happy to announce that tomorrow 10AM PST Warner will issue a press release announcing they are going Blu-ray exclusive. I know many of you will not believe me and think this is simply a joke (which I dont blame you for) but I ask you one thing :
-Wait till tomorrow and see what happens. If the announcement doesn't come through, you can blame me all you want and ban me from the site.
Again I'm going to expect alot of doubful comments (or maybe some not nice ones ) coming but I'm fine with it. I'm some one you guys already know (and perhaps you have read my posts before ).
As for those folks willing to have a bit more faith in me, let me give you some insights for tomorrow's announcement :

-Tomorrow Warner will announce going Blu-ray exclusive. However they will honor their commitment to HD DVD (unlike Paramount to Blu-ray) and release all the titles that were promised this year. Starting 2008, Warner will release only in Blu-ray Disc format.
-Waner will release all the previously exclusive HD DVD titles on Blu-ray by end of Q2 2008.
-The first Blu-ray live title (including PiP) from warner will release early 2008.
-As for their joint promotion with Toshiba regarding bundling 300 with 3rd generation Blu-ray players, the offer will expire December 2007.
-New Line will also go Blu-ray exclusive starting 2008 (Hairspray hint anyone?)
-One big catalogue title will be released exclusive on Blu-ray by Q2 2008. I believe Peter Jackson has something to do with that title

Tomorrow 10AM Pacific Time. For those of you who will think I'm not telling the truth or being stupid, I respect that opinion. But coming tomorrow when Warner announces exclusivity, all of you have to send me a Blu-ray movie as a bonus .

Would be very interesting if it happened- but the source is hardly reliable so I'm not sure I believe it.

How many Sony paid Warner $300m threads will we see if its true?

I'll believe it when I hear it in a proper press release. Not getting any hopes up.

EDIT: BTW PST is 7 hours behind UK.

I think it's -8 hours this time of year so that would make it 18:00 GMT.

I'd be very surprised if there was any substance to this rumour.

Re: Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

When the Paramount announcement was made no one knew about it, and it caught everyone by surprise. If Warner made a similiar announcement, I expect it would also catch everyone by surprise. Therefore you won't see this coming before it happens

Interesting

Will wait and see if there is an announcement.

Just had a quick read through those linked forums. Are they all teenagers or something? The comments are cringworthy and take me back to the times of Spectrum V Commodore, AtariST versus Amiga, Sega V Nintendo and XBOX versus Playstation.

Sorry, but the people on that site, really are immature to be getting all hot under the collar about different formats. I mean would this still be the case if either camp wasn't linked to xbox and playstation??

I just want to watch movies.....

Coming from a Junior poster on blu-ray.com I find this difficult to believe.

Me too. One think I note. A lot of Blu-ray fans cried 'foul' over Paramount yet would think that something like this is perfectly acceptable. hmmm.

On a serious note I think it's logical Warner will eventually choose one format or the other - it's just a question of when and which format. It also wouldn't surprise me if they chose BluRay - they were after all a vocal supporter of the format at CEDIA - and New Line are keen on DRM. But I'd be surprised if this tomorrow/Warner guess had any weight.

Does this mean you'll send us a HD DVD movie if they don't go exclusive?

Re: Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

Sorry absolute garbage! wb will not announce anything until after christmas anyway. They have too many pre releases for hd-dvd to sacrafice christmas sales.

Wasn't the rumour last month a hd-dvd announcement for wb exclusive.

Sounds like some lonely guy wants a bit of attention making this up.

Re: Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

Some executive-type guy left Warners recently and he was in charge of their HD technical group (if I remember right). They could be planning something (or maybe they aren't ).

Re: Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

No way in the world an announcement like this would be announced by a no body on bluray.com, especially since none of the insiders clearly know anything about it.

It's just someone wanting attention and it's sad how much he has gotten from it.

Even more unlikely is the fact the he says they are going blu-ray exclusive but still releasing HD-DVD titles till the end of the year, that would be a bizarre thing to do.

We really shouldn't be justifying this with a discussion, in fact I'm embarrassed at myself for commenting.

Just a thought - before we have 50 pages of speculation - why not lock the thread and open it this evening if it should be true?

Agreed, We aren't even allowed to discuss sales numbers here anymore, so it's a little strange to allow discussion on a silly baseless rumour, I don't foresee positive things for this thread at all.

I agree.

But the better people on BR.com are reserving judgement. I am sceptical till I see something proper.

EDIT: Someone remind me why we can't discuss sales numbers?

Re: Rimour mill...Warner going blue ray exclusive?

I woke up this morning and read that Warner is going Blu-Ray exclusive, HD DVD and Blu-Ray's native resolution is 960x540 and Man U got beat 2-0 by Coventry at home. I'm going back to bed.

I wish I'd been there but we are having new heating fitted yesturday and today, cracking second goal from Misfud and the huge cheque will help us get through the money crunch untill the takeover (fingers crossed).

Off topic sorry but more valid than the rumor.
