How can I get imports more quickly???

I usually order my HD DVDs and BDs from Amazon UK Marketplace (I usually use Caiman), or Amazon USA.

The trouble is, I then have to wait for at least a week for the imports to arrive.

I could use faster shipping, but that's flippin' expensive.

Anyone any idea/links for a site where I could (for example) order 'Transformers' from the US and have it delivered within a couple of days of release?

Cheers.

Is that Movietime.com or .co.uk?

Any others?

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

Right.

And I can order from that .com US site and still get the discs in Huddy in a couple of days?

What's PnP like?

Prices in general (v Amazon, for example)?

Cheers.

Having a look, it appears to bed a US organisation, specifically set up to supply discs to the UK. Have I got that right?

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

The new releases are generally shipped from the States, so take between 5 and 10 days to get here, BUT Movietyme usually ship before the street date (unlike Amazon) so even allowing for the time in the postal system you get them generally before the street date in the States.

The price quoted on the Movietyme (MT) site included postage, there is a chance you might get stung for import duty / VAT, but in the year or so I have used them have been lucky so far.

They have offices in the UK too, that you use for returns etc.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

Movietyme, Axel, DVDWorldUSA all ship really early. Recieved my Anchor Bay Blu-rays from Axel this morning, not released until 2nd Oct!

The quickest place I have come across is DVDsLimited, however there is a premium to pay for that with discs about £3 dearer than those above.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

DVDworldusa has premium shipping that is 2-3 buisness days and costs 1.95 (I think) per disc. If you order 4 in stock discs at once you get that shipping free.

£1.95 or $1.95?

Can't check myself, as I can't access that site from work.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

£'s unfortunatly and it's £3.50 for a box set.

I try to do the order 4 in stock movies at a time whenever possible (though no good for your transformers situation) and I find most of the time they only arrive a day or 2 later than ordering from somewhere like amazon.co.uk or play.com.

Only 1 of my orders from them took a while and that was heros that took over a week. Not sure what went wrong there.

Is it worth it?

I mean surely, you'll have to pay duty if it's 4 films, and that'll be more than the PnP.

Or have I missed something?

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

dvdworldusa will add a credit to your account if you ever end up paying duty. (I think thats to your account though not your credit card so you will need to spend the returned duty money on another product from them)

I've had about 40 I think titles from them including a couple of box sets and have never paid duty.

I won't go any further as I don't want to say anything that might increase anyones chance of getting in trouble.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

I've never paid any import duty with movietyme
even though my 360 add on was £150.
and as an example I got the 360 oblivion game of the year edition delivered yesterday which was £29.99, and on the label they had put..
"optical media value under $20"
but as a rule they get their goods over to their UK base and send them out from there to avoid import duties.
hats off to those guys at movietyme.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

Very interested in ordering from Movietyme.
Can I ask? I work varied shifts so can't really predict when I'm going to be home. Do you have to sign for their deliveries or do they just pop them through your letterbox?

Am I right in saying that region coding has not yet been implemented on HD DVD disks? Very keen to get an import of 'Planet Earth' if this is the case. UK release is Novemeber 5th and I'm too excited to wait

I've only just jumped aboard the HD band wagon. Ordered a Toshiba HDEP10 yesterday from Beyond Television (within my budget). The better half just phoned me to say it has arrived!! I'm like a dog with two tails, don't know which one to wag

Regards
Scrag

PS. OP, sorry for gatecrashing your thread

There's a pretty thorough FAQ over at HD DVD Heaven that should answer a lot of your questions.

they just come through the letterbox,
unless they are too large,
like a box set,
then you'll get the postie ringing the bell.

That's good to know. Pity about the box sets though but I suppose that's to be expected. I will have to make sure I'm in then. If my neighbour picked it up I'd never see it again

Unless you have one of the best posties in the UK.. Who takes it upon himself to find small, secure and dry hiding places for the various items, and then posts little notes through your door to let you know there's a new package there..

I think he must be ex MI6

Although he never did find that bottle I hid at Xmas.......

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

Lots of box sets will still come through the door depends of course on the size. Heros and the matrix (non ultimate) both did. (this was dvdworldusa not movietyme but I doubt it would be different)

If this was a serious issue for you I'm sure you'd be able to get a bigger letterbox or speak to your postie one morning and give him instructions on what to do with parcels that don't fit.

Re: How can I get imports more quickly?

I order a lot from Amazon, and have 2 addresses logged with them - work and home.

If anything is big, or I'm out at work, or need to pay customs, I need to go to the Post Office.

I live in Huddy and work in Wakefield. I actually pass Wakey P.O. on the way home, so it's often easier to get it delivered to work.

I use axelmusic.com . Great customer service too . And xploited.com are good for 'BD' exclusives on HD-Dvd like 'Underworld' , 'Silent Hill' , Bridge to Terabithia and Fantastic 4.
