New Releases for October

October 2nd

Blu-ray Disc Ony:

Bram Stoker's Dracula
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The Day After Tomorrow
Day of the Dead (1985)
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer
Halloween (1978)

HD DVD Only:

Dreaming Nevada
Top Gun

On Both Formats

A Room with a View
Galapagos

NOTE ALSO, Warner are re-issuing the following films on HD DVD in non-combo versions:

The Ant Bully
The Departed
The Fountain
Good Night, and Good Luck
Happy Feet
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Lady in the Water
The Lake House
Letters from Iwo Jima
Rumor Has It...
Superman Returns

A big week for horror fans, and I suspect there are a lot of genre film fans who are high def early adopters. Buit there's also an almost rabid hatred among HD DVD fans of combos, and these re-issues will be most welcome in some circles. Will this, and Tom Cruise, make a difference?

October 9th

Blu-ray Disc Ony:

28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
Edward Scissorhands
The Fly (1986)
From Hell
Nature's Journey
Reign Over Me
RoboCop
Surf's Up

HD DVD Only:

Evan Almighty

On Both Formats

Twilight Zone: The Movie

A funny week. 'Evan Almighty' bombed in relation to its budget, but still took over $100,000,000 at the box office. It's more of a comedy, but with some sfx. Meanwhile you'd expect '28 Weeks Later' and 'RoboCop' to do well. An interesting one.

October 16th

Blu-ray Disc Ony:

AC/DC: Live at Donington
Hollow Man (Director's Cut)
The Invisible
Masters of Horror: Season One - Volume One
Masters of Horror: Season One - Volume Two

HD DVD Only:

A Mighty Heart
Transformers

On Both Formats

The Reaping
Return to House on Haunted Hill

Not a difficult week to call. AC/DC will wipe the floor with everything. Seriously, 'Transformers' looks almost tailor-made for the high def format, and all eyes will be on how many this will sell on HD DVD-only.

October 23rd

Blu-ray Disc Ony:

The Company (2007)
The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007)
Home of the Brave
Hostel (Director's Cut)
Hostel: Part II
King of New York
Meet the Robinsons
Mr. Brooks
Scary Movie

HD DVD Only:

Carlito's Way
Carlito's Way: Rise to Power
Inside Man
The Jack Ryan Collection
Keali'i Reichel - Live in Concert
Motorhead: Stage Fright
Seed of Chucky

On Both Formats

2001: A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
Full Metal Jacket: Deluxe Edition
The Shining (1980)
The Sopranos: Season Six, Part Two

A great week for film fans, rather than format fanboys. It'd be great if the Kubrick films and The Jack Ryan Collection could do well.

October 30th

Blu-ray Disc Ony:

David Gilmour: Remember That Night
HDScape: Antarctica Dreaming
HDScape: Blu-ray Sampler
HDScape: Exotic Saltwater Aquarium
HDScape: Fireplace - Visions of Tranquility
HDScape: HDWindow - Hawaii
HDScape: HDWindow - The Great Southwest
HDScape: Serenity - Southern Seas
HDScape: Stargaze II
HDScape: Visions of the Sea
The Polar Express (NOTE: Already on HD DVD, but Blu-ray Disc exclusive today)
Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man: The High-Definition Trilogy

HD DVD Only:

Face/Off (Paramount)
Talk to Me (Universal)

On Both Formats

Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics
License to Wed

This really should be 'Spiderman's week, shouldn't it. There are questions, though. Will sales of the trilogy hit sales of the '3-only' release, which was critically mauled? Will 'Face/Off' do well? How well will sales of 'Transformers' (now in its 3rd week) hold up?

It looks like being a bloomin' great month for everyone.

Thanks for that, only Spider-Man really takes my fancy. I hope there are some Bond releases this side of Christmas, I'd like Brosnan in HD .

Re: New Releases for October

These are US releases.

I generally use High Def Digest.

If anyone knows a definitive list like HDD's of UK releases, please let me know, and I'll gladly update the list.

Cheers.

Re: New Releases for October

If I was you I wouldn't bother with UK HD-DVD's, there is no region coding on HD-DVD and the US titles are usually far cheaper, even including delivery etc.. and the US has more releases currently and they are avaliable a lot sooner..

And, the cases are thinner and inner sleeves sexier thanks to no ugly certificates plastered all over them.

God i'm anal!

Same here. The triple pack sounds like a great deal.

Example:

'Hot Fuzz' HD DVD.

Amazon UK £17.98
Amazon UK Marketplace £17.96
Amazon UK US disc £16.28

'Shaun of the Dead' HD DVD.

Amazon UK £14.99
Amazon UK US version £11.91

The US versions are almost always available first.

Sometimes it's cheaper to get the UK version from Amazon UK as you don't pay a delivery charge, but not always.
