Except the second part (disc 2) of the movie which didn't play at all.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

I think there is a new firmware update out version 2.2 ?
I keep meaning to shove a lead into my HD-E1 and get it but life keeps taking over.
don't know if it will help with your second disc problem though.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

I saw someone on avsforum say they had this issue and went into the setup menu and changed the twin format from HD-DVD to DVD and it played. Seems a strange solution, but hey it will only take a couple of seconds to try so worth doing before you send it back.

Image is really good. Sound is DD+ at 640kbps, sounds better than might believe.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Thanks High Def DVD, that looks incredibly good, glad I ordered a copy now. The SD disc of the shorter (168 min) cut was good enough for SD but this looks much better.

Sorry to hear, same thing as for me earlier?
Well, firmware 2.2 did it for me, are u sure you do have the 2.2 in the player and not the 2.0 in the maintenance?
I haven't any answers, was in contact with toshiba 2 weeks ago and they said there wasn't any issues with this movie at all and as noted 2.2 did help me with my E1.

What if a restart helps, you unplug the power cord and reconnect the player from there?

I also had a problem with the second disc. Try initialising the disc under the general maintenance on set-up - failing that try changing the disc on the picture set-up to PAL rather than AUTO.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

From other users:

"I had the same problem on my HD-E1 (European A20(?)) The display on the player said "NONPLAY" and i got the message 'System Error Accured'
I solved it by clearing all the entries in the persisten storage of my drive and then insert the disc again."

"The first time I tried the second disc, it gave me "System Error" after the Warner logo. I ejected and reloaded, and it played fine after that."

"Deleting all entries for Warner Bros. in the persistent storage of my HD E1 worked for me."

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Got my Alexander disc from movetyme today, disc 1 Ok, disc 2 would not play(system error occured).

My E1 was loaded with firmware 2.0, so out with the cables and hooked it up to the pc and 30 mins later had 2.2 firmware loaded.

Popped Alexander disc 2 in, still no joy would not work past the Warner Brothers splash screen.

Tried a couple of the sudgested fixes, change HD DVD to DVD and picture setting change from Auto to PAL still no joy.

Was getting desperate by now so tried the persistent storage, and saw there was a warner brothers logo there so I deleted it and voila the disc now works so thanks to High_def DVD for the fix.

Anyone got any ideas why this problem is occuring.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Harry

Can't tel you what it is or does(trying to find out myself) but switch your machine on.

Then hit setup button,go into maintainance you will see a box marked Persistent Storage, highlight it and hit the Ok button.

You are now in Persistant storage, hit Ok button and if anything shows up(warner bros or another studio name) you can delete it by pressing the delete key(it shows on screen what button to press).Once deleted the movie will play(at least it did in my case)

In my case it was Warner Bros and the movie is Alexander, are you having trouble with this movie too?

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Warner should revisit this disc and replace the one we've bought with a fully working HD-DVD. It's ridiculous to issue a disc which won't play on 2.2 firmware upgraded players and for buyers to have to fiddle with their machines in order to get the disc to play.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

I quite agree Bosque I am starting to feel we are beta testers for the HD DVD & blu ray manufacturers.

This product is just not ready for joe sixpack,I am happy with the concept & audio/visual side of high def dvd but why should we have all this faffing about when we want to watch a new disc

If the manufacturers want this product to succeed they need to sort this out and fast, imagine if they sold these machines/discs in the 100's of thousands(as I am sure they do want to) they would have a lot of unhappy campers on there case.

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Having watched Alexander disc 2,I popped disc 1 back in to find it would not play untill I re-did the persistant storage delete.

So it looks like each and everytime you play one of these discs you are going to have to faff around with persistent storage, what a load of old cods

Re: Alexander Revisited The Final Cut HD DVD

Wonder if it's something to do with having HD content and SD content on the same disc ? although that doesn't seem to be a problem for other discs with similar content. It is an amazingly good transfer and I was pleased that Oliver Stone decided to cut out Jared Leto's blurry writhing during his death scene which looked unintentionally comical on the director/theatrical cuts. Not too sure whether the added gay scenes worked, though.
