Mr Bond... We're expecting you...

If it's one thing I've been waiting for (and expecting) is the Bond back catalogue on BluRay.

The entire group of films are currently sitting on Lowry Digital's server farm in 4k masters just waiting to be unleashed (and currently some of the films are available in Virgin in HD as well).

I'm really surprised that no news has come out about them as I would expect it would be a real sales boon to the format.

Oh well, I'll just sit here in my underground lair, surrounded by young ladies in bikinis, drinking Dom Perignon and stroking my white cat...

Which Bond films do you think are for sale in Virgin on HD?

My guess would be that they would release them to coincide with either the theatrical or Blu-ray release of Bond 22. Take advantage of Bond fever.

I'd go with that too, certainly can't see them being released before then.

I would hope they're not going to release them all at once especially not in a box set.

It's frightening to think what a complete set of 22 films might cost on Blu-Ray. That said, by November 2008 or even March 2009, one imagines that there'll be a lot more Blu-Ray players sold and the cost of discs will have been driven down a bit. But even with that, i bet it will still cost a bob or two.

Re: Mr Bond... We're expecting you...

Its a real feather in Blue Rays cap, but it will be very expensive for hardcore fans to double dip yet again. My guess is that they will do what they did with the sddvd special editions, and release a couple every month or so.

I'll just get the 2 with Tim Dalton in, he was the best!

PS I'm not being sarcastic when I say that!

Re: Mr Bond... We're expecting you...

Forgive me (heavy weekend), the Bond films are MGM right?

Are they BR exclusive?

I guess we'll have to wait a while longer for HD-DVD versions

Bound to be some distributors around the globe that support HD-DVD though.

Yep, Living Daylights is easily one of the best Bond movies of any Bond. The only reason I can't say it is the best is that it doesn't star Connery.

When they're eventually released I'll buy Connery's, Dalton's, Lazenby's and three or four Moores.

Re: Mr Bond... We're expecting you...

Connery was the best bond by far imo, then Dalton/Brosnan, then the others with Moore last...

Im still unsure if i should head Blueray or HD DVD atm...but am eagerly awaiting the victor lol

Never been a Bond fan myself but Casino Royale was great.

The Bu-ray looked very good, interesting opening credits also.

The Living Daylights was excellent but not so keen on his second.

A thought, maybe they're waiting till they've got more experience of BD encoding before they go into the back catalogue.

Re: Mr Bond... We're expecting you...

I would imagine that they would get Lowry Digital to do the encoding.

Maybe the wait is to get people who have been swithering over the Ultimate edition DVDs to buy them and then release BluRay version just after they've bought them.

I personally love the Living daylights but my two favourites are Goldeneye and the Spy who loved me.

Mmmm High def 1080P Barbara Bach...

As far as I am aware Sony have the rights to the Bond franchise, so only expect them on Bluray for the immediate future. Except "Never Say Never Again" but I don't think HD would do it much justice

Problem is I already have a mix of the Ultimate and Special DVD Editions - the Ultimate editions cleaned up really nice, they look like new - HD versions should be pretty damn good - but with my current setup of PS3 and 26inch Panasonic LCD I can't tell the difference between Casino Royal DVD and BD - you lot with bigger screens will.

I am more concerned what a HD picture would do for Sean Connery and his dodgy hair piece in Never Say Never Again.
