Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

I think it did come out a while back, or was supposed to.

However, due to its VHS like transfer it was pulled very quickly, so I assume that it wont come out until it is remastered.

Cheers for that mate, I am glad they pulled it back as the quality does sound quite shocking from that review Guess I'll be sticking with the standard DVD until it comes out again.

This is one of my fav films, the one liners are classic ("I'm cashing you out Bob!") and is one of those films I can watch over and over again

Same here, i had read a few weeks ago that it had been pulled before release. Upon finding out why i would not have said that "i'd buy that for a dollar"

I really hope they bring a definitive BD release out soon.

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

Just noticed this myself! I just hope it’s a good transfer as this IS my favourite film of all time (call me sad) and to see it in HD would be fantastic!

Sad

Just Kidding

80's action films are awesome imo, and Robocop is definitely up there with the best of them

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

Robocop is classic film and easily in my Top Ten best films. I already have it on the UK Trilogy Box Set and the Criterion Edition, but I know I'll buy it in High Def!

Just got to sneak it past the missus!

personally I disagree.

The letterboxed Criterion version is just painful to watch on a big screen. Its only about 360 lines of resolution.

And while other movies 'directors cut' versions are valid to consider the definitive version, I'm fine with the recent MGM cut of Robocop. I don't personally think the changes made affect the message of the movie or how it flows etc.

So assuming its a good transfer (I'll wait for the reviews), I'll snap it up.

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

"Apparently minted from a cleaned up version of the film's unrated cut, MGM says the upcoming BD-25 single-layer release will feature 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, as well as a new DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.

However, in a move that's sure to frustrate fans, the set's sole bonus feature will be a theatrical trailer -- this, despite the fact that MGM released a feature-packed two-disc special edition of the film on standard DVD in late August, and even the earlier cancelled Blu-ray featured an audio commentary, a documentary and deleted scenes.

No reason was given for the dropped extras."

From here

That sounds good enough for me, i hope it doesnt have any compression artefacts being a single layer and using MPEG4.

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

Big respect to MGM for re-doing this. I hope the PQ & SQ do the spec justice.

But why-oh-why drop the extras?

Don't get me wrong. In a choice between extras and PQ/SQ, I'll take the latter every time.

But this just looks like MGM have dropped them for no reason at all.

Nonetheless, pending good reviews, this one's mine!

The video game on the SNES was horrible, too. Really difficult (to the point of being impossible), with only about 3 levels.

I have all the extras on my SD-DVD so i won't lose any sleep over this bare bones BD. Just give me that unrated cut and glorious new transfer....assuming it is glorious, that is.

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that the upcoming 'The Company' Blu-ray release (October 23rd) will be delivered on a two discs set featuring 1080p video and PCM audio. Additionally, Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that the upcoming 'Robocop' release (October 9th) will be the unrated version, and feature AVC 1080p video and DTS-HD Master Audio on a BD-25. The only extra on 'Robocop' will be a trailer

Hope this helps

This is a bare bones copy. We all know we'll have to double-dip for an all singing, all dancing HD special edition soon enough. I think I'll skip this one. Very dissapointing.

I wasn't expecting anything that special with this release tbh. It's the best version available at present so that's what I'm getting.

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

If this were just out, I'd agree, and I'd get it.

But I think FOX are taking the urine.

First we get poor-ish PQ.

Then we get a lossless sound format most people can't access (whilst there are plenty of perfectly good lossless formats out there that most people can access).

Then we get the extras removed.

Then we get charged $10 more than any other Blu-ray Disc-supporting studio charges for back catalogue releases.

I'd love this on high def. But as I already have the DVD, I'm happy to wait until they do something better. If The Simpsons Movie were $40, poor-ish PQ and no extras, I might still buy it, as it's a film I don't currently have at all.

But this is just bang out of order. I seriously think we should all boycott this until Fox get real.

You don't have to fowl up the transfer, drop the extras, and charge $40 for a catalogue title. Look at what Sony have done with A Few Good Men. A superb film, which looks and sounds excellent, with loads of extras, for $30.

That's how you do it!

Re: Robocop on Blu-Ray?

Doesn't sound like there's much justification for upgrading. While the PQ on the Special Edition DVD release wasn't perfect it was still perfectly watchable. By the sounds of it the BD release doesn't seem to improve much on it at all and there isn't the benefit of the director's cut and extras that came with the special edition release.
