Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Does anyone know if Terminator 2 HD DVD is still set for a UK release on Monday (13 August)? Play, Amazon and Sendit all still list it for that day but I don't think I've seen any specs yet.

I assume this is the Ultimate edition cut but does it include the English DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack found on the French version?

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

From what I've understood of the UK release, and come to think of it I've just been assuming that his will be the case, it will be the Director's Cut disc from the 2-disc French release (where the second disc is the Theatrical cut with forced subs when choosing the English audio track).

The specs on MovieTyme for the French release are:
Video: Widescreen 2.35:1, Anamorphic 16x9, 1080P, Color
Audio: English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, German 5.1 DTS-HD Hi-Resolution Audio and French 5.1 DTS-HD Hi-Resolution
Subtitles: ... the Director's Cut has optional French subtitles.

Looks like this release is still on track - I have just had an email from Sendit.com that they have shipped my copy!

Any particular reason you were waiting for a UK version?

Well I went for the UK HD DVD version over the US BluRay because of the fact the former is VC1, an extended cut and has a next gen audio track. The BD is a lacklustre MPEG2/DD.

I did consider getting the French HD DVD release (which has the theatrical cut as well) but just never really got around to it. On top of that I would never watch the theatrical cut over the extended edition anyway so don't feel I've really missed out.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Which extended version is it?

I ask this because on my R1 DVD there is actually 3 versions of the film.
The special extended version is accessed by putting the date of Judgement Day on the menu screen.

The UE DVD has the Theatrical Cut, the Directors Cut and the Extended Version (Two Extra Scenes - T1000 searching Johns room and Sarah as an old woman) (as an easter egg).

The French HD DVD is the Theactrical & DC, while it appears the UK is the DC. None of the HD DVDs have the Extended version which is accesed as an Easter Egg.

Yes, I think so. Although I believe the new gen machines due out later in the year will support it.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Doesnt anyone else think that its a bit weird they bothered to release players that dont support all the audio formats?

I realize that many of the new audio formats arent mandatory, but they should realize that many studios will use them. So it doesnt make sense to make a player that doesnt support them.

It really just makes many people wait for players that do support everything. Surely they should realize by now that all this does is slow uptake of a new format?

DTS-HD Master Audio includes a DTS 'core' stream that all HD DVD players can play. The lossless track is not yet supported on any HD DVD player though - largely because OEM components that can handle the codec have been slow coming. You can expect players to start supporting very soon.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Received mine this morning.
According to the packaging (not opened it yet) no English subtitles.
That really sucks as my wife is hard of hearing and relies on subtitles.
The only reason I waited for this release was that I hoped it would have English Subtitles

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Does anyone have any opinions on this release whos owned it?
I don't seem to be able to find any reviews of the UK disc.

Is it supposed to the same picture quality as the French T2 HD DVD from a couple months ago?

I thought it was fairly good myself. I brought the Lionsgate MPEG2/DD BluRay last year and thought it was awful so eagerly snapped up this version when it was released - picture and sound were vastly superior certainly nowhere near DVD quality.

For info it seems like the upcoming German version may be the 'one to own' though - it will support full iHD features including PiP.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

The new German one does look tasty, but it's possible that it'll feature the extended version only. In that case I'll stick with the French release for the theatrical edition (the true Director's Cut of T2). I'd rather stick a fork into my eye than watch the extended version again, no matter how many presentational bells and whistles it may have.

Have to admit I am something of a sucker for extra footage - and the added material in Terminator 2, whilst not adding much, doesn't really detract from the film IMHO. But choice is always good I suppose.

I would have though Amazon Germany would probably be a safe bet - or maybe Movietyme will stock it? Regardless I would hold fire until you've seen some reviews and more details of the 'special features'.

Anyway I will stick with my UK version - perfectly happy with the movie and it's transfer

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

I have to say I actually thought that the extended version added more to the story and helped to explain some parts of the existing story.

Im really not sure what to make of this HD-DVD release though??

Some scenes look great with some fine detail etc, but then others look worse than I remember them being on DVD.

I know you say this is better than the previous BD version Rasczak (that must have been bloody awful!) but Im just not sure what to make of it.

I was expecting something really special (maybe thats my own fault) but I do feel a tad disappointed.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Hi there, guys.

I bought a copy of T2 (French version) off eBay. Anyone else who has the French version, please help!

I can't seem to run the English audio without the French subtitles (I have a Toshiba HD-XE1).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition HD DVD

Disc 1 (the theatrical one) you can't - they are forced on if you take the 'English ' option.

Disc 2 (directors cut) allows the removal of the subtitles.
