this poor being called foxclose instead of making everybody want to adopt blu ray, makes me just not ever wanting maybe even a universal player. if he just wants to wind up hd dvd fans means he is immature and not to say something more offensive which I would say. if that is not the case and for some reason he just hates hd dvd, this approach is even worse but I am not going to spend any more words on somebody like him.

There is no need for you to jump on every HD DVD thread and downplay every single bit of news for it. You would be the first one to complain if people did that to your many Blu-ray news threads.

This forum needs to remain out of the format war and just good discussions of HD Movies and I will not have it turned into constant fan boy arguments.

Actually, I didn't attack HD-DVD at all in my post that was deleted.
I just simply stated that this was an "Awful movie" - I mean when we are discussing HD Movies I can at least do that can I? The attack was on the movie itself and First Look Pictures.

Anyway we just had 300 selling over 250,000 copies on both formats. So do you honestly believe a movie (like this) on one format is going to have any impact on this war?? I just simply don't believe the studio in this case.

EDIT: It seems HD-DVD fans are far more sensitive to criticism for their format. I think it's to do with their hardcore stance. If I was HD-DVD supporter everything would be okay.

Of course your entitled to your opinion on the movie, but why attack a studio for releasing it just because they are HD DVD exclusive?

The OP has only posted a link about a HD DVD title doing better than expected as it from a small studio. Nowhere in the OP or the link does it mention Blu-ray or films/studios like this winning a "War".

On the subject of small studios, I seem to remember you starting a number of threads regarding small/indie studios going Blu-ray exclusive and how great this was.

It's great for HD-DVD that they've got First Look on board. I was not attacking that at all!
But I just simply don't believe their statements (600,000 copies distributed?? $4million on this release??), as the news story is spun in a way that you don't know if they are talking about SD-DVD or HD-DVD.

So did the Contact really outperform expectations?? If so in what format?

I think its clear they are talking about both DVD & HD DVD in the numbers quoted, although you note that the studio declined to comment on those figures.

So all HD-DVD studios must break even then? That great for HD-DVD as well. However, that got nothing to do with "performance" or "out performing"?? If this title is performing than pretty much everything else must be!

For a small studio producing its first to outperform their expactations by breaking (note, again read and it says MORE THAN Broke Even!) even isnt difficult to believe (will be the same for those small indie Blu-ray studios when they start)
This has nothing to do with other HD DVD studios/companies as them getting started in HD DVD is a tiny expense for the big releases they have lined up to recoup the costs.

Not actually true - there are numerous fans of BR that are still supporting both formats (like I am)

Have about 50 BR's and around 40 HD-DVD's. I do think however that BR is the way to go for the future (mainly due to much more storage allowing better quality transfers of audio and video, not to mention extras etc)

I would also point out that in general I have been let down by more HD-DVD transfers than I have BR's (yes some of my bought on a whim purchases havent worked out on both but thats because of the film not the transfer). This could of course be lazy "first editions" that are going to re-release Directors Cuts and Special Editions galore like they have for years on sd dvd

I'm dual format too, and have great films/discs on both.
