Face Off HD

I realise a thread was closed the other day because of bickering over which HD version of this film would be better , unless these are non final copies of the back covers (taken from axel music) can you spot the difference ? I am planning on buying the HD version ..

Re: Face Off HD

HD DVD

6.1 -ES
5.1 +
7 Deleted Scenes (with Commentaries) in HD

Blu-ray

6.1 -ES
5.1 -EX
7 Deleted Scenes (with Commentaries) in HD

and the three extras features which have been mentioned before:
Light & Dark - The Making Of Face Off (in HD)
John Woo - A Life In Pictures (in HD)
Original Trailer (in HD)

So no Hi-Def audio. which is a shame on a SE release
The Making Of & Trailer don't concern me too much but the John Woo HD feature could be interesting, has this been available elsewhere before or is it new? This could lean me towards the Blu-ray.

Is it no longer a 2-disc release (still listed as in most places) just cant understand why the HD DVD release would need two discs.

Re: Face Off HD

A poor effort by Paramount, on leaving out the extras on the HD-DVD version.
We now know space wasn't EVEN the issue!

Considering the HD DVD has a DD+ soundtrack in addition to the DTS I would say, from an AVphiles perspective, that it has the potential to be the better release.

Re: Face Off HD

I like Face/Off and I'm quite interested in the extra's (usually I wouldn't bother) but both these releases don't hold a candle to the Japanese Blu-ray with the most thunderous PCM track I've heard yet.

Re: Face Off HD

Face/Off was the first film I bought when I got a DVD player all those years ago - I like the idea of it being my first HD purchase also (on blu-ray anyway).

Great film, I like a lot of John Woo's stuff and this is one of his better Hollywood efforts <cough> Paycheck <cough>

Re: Face Off HD

I purchased the japanese Blu-ray with the PCM soundtrack when I was in Japan in June. I flogged it for just uunder £40 on ebay becuase of the 2 disc version that was looming. As everyday goes by I'm regretting more and more my decision to flog it.

Face Off is being released in the UK on BD on 1/10/2007.

In the UK the distributors are Buena Vista. As we already know with The Rock and Crimson Tide, the UK BV releases have all had PCM tracks.

Could it be worth waiting for the UK release?

Is the Japanese Bluray region-free? I might import it as I'd rather pay a bit more (to import) if it means getting a PCM soundtrack

Same here if the UK disc doesnt come with PCM or/and is cut; where would be the best place to import it from?

Does that mean there will be no HD DVD version sold here in the UK (other than to get an import)?

Re: Face Off HD

Disney have done a good job with their BDs so far (the PCM sound I'm especially impressed with). And as extra features don't do much for me these days, I can live without the extras on the upcoming US high def versions. Sod it, I might just get the Jap version and be done with it!

Thanks mate. I generally wait for discs to come out over here before I buy them (as I buy from UK retailers).

Looks like this will be my first import. Is there a site or some list out there that will tell me what HD DVD films (in any area) are BD exclusives in the UK/Europe?

The UK version has 7secs cut from it showing Travolta using a butterfly knife:

7s cut by the BBFC for both cinema and video versions, running time 133:07s, certificate 18

* Archer (John Travolta) asks his daughter whether she has protection and demonstrates a butterfly knife by whirling it around. This demonstration does not pass the censor as the butterfly knife is on their list of no-no's
* The girl eventually gets to use the butterfly knife by stabbing Archer, but we don't get to see the knife.

The US Region 1 dvd is uncut

Still no word on soundtracks but I guess if the HD is 2 Disc the audio should be Hi-Def??

Shame its been delayed, the UK BD release may be out ahed of the US but at £6 cheaper I will just hope MT ship it early

Re: Face Off HD

I think with so many editions being released in the US, UK, and Japan I think it's best to hang fire until they are all out. The Japanese edition is tempting but if Paramount do release a collector's edition with lossless sound, extras, and it's cheaper than importing, we'll all be kicking ourselves...well I will anyway.

The UK release from BVHE is out on Blu-ray in October, should be Region Free and uncompressed sound if their previous releases are to go by
