Starship Troopers - Region A Release

Sony have confirmed Starship Troopers for BluRay Region A release

Special Features are still TBC but Sony have confirmed a October 16 release date and the disc will include a 1080p encode and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track.

Sounds good, now let's just hope this will work on Reg B players!

There is actually a Region B release of this excellent film already announced - although I haven't seen the specs so don't know if the LPCM track is included (I would suspect it is).

It's a shame that Sony doesn't adopted Dolby TrueHD tracks rather than PCM. Longer term this could end up being a better option.

You have a good point - but as no players currently output the bitstream imagine all the ps3 (as this is the majority so far of BR purchasers) owners who expect "True HD/ DTS HD MA" to appear on their amp, when its currently never going to.

Some BR's (Men of Honour for definite) are being released with only a True HD/DTS MA soundtrack in English included, so what you are suggesting could happen

LPCM is still a great improvement over standard DVD sound

Re: Starship Troopers - Region A Release

Pretty certain the worldwide release (i.e. not the US one) is by Disney rather than Sony (so that's what the UK release will be), so should be interesting to compare the two of them. My money is on the Disney one being the best quality (both audio and visual).

Really? Sony have been spot on with some of their releases lately - The Fifth Element (Remastered) for example.

Re: Starship Troopers - Region A Release

Don't get me wrong I believe Sony have been doing a great job recently (after a pretty poor start). IMO Disney are just as good (if not a little better) on the visual side of things and tend to give us 24 bit audio tracks more than any other studio

It will certainly be an interesting comparison.

Indeed. I have both Region A (Sony BDP1) and Region B (PS3) players at present so I'll pickup whichever is best - although i would prefer to avoid the UK market for as long as possible.

Re: Starship Troopers - Region A Release

Just had my UK version dispatched. Should have PCM 5.1 if previous releases are anything to go by. I seriously doubt it'll have the extras of the US 2-disc DVD (ditto for the Region A version) but I've got that anyway so a bare-bones BD will do me just fine. Can't wait to spin this one!

Sony has "indefinitely delayed" the Starship Troopers Region A BluRay release

Looks like I have now no choice but to order the UK variant.

I'm not sure TBH - I have a UK PS3 so that will suffice if my BDP1 can't handle the disc. Regional coding makes me

All Sony, Disney catalogs from now on are Region-Free.

I expect Fox to follow suit as well.

The mighty Asda, although thanks to the posties and their gripes with their paymasters it won't turn up until next week. Still, I've got 300 to watch in the meantime.

You expect Fox to go region free? Despite the fact that they have been banging on about copy protection and region coding since day one? Despite the fact they have encoded every release? And despite the fact that they have now suspended all BluRay releases until further notice?

Did your favourite "Hollywood In Hi Def" site (a BluRay advertising site) tell you that?

Well, that's the BDA policy on catalog titles. Not on new releases though.
We'll find out when they actually come back.

Unfortunately it's Fox who tells the BDA what to do - not the other way around - as demonstrated by BD+ and ROM Mark Mind you policy changes are easy when they keep whatever policies they do have (such as mandatory removal of regional coding) top secret apparently only revealing them to a few hardcore fans.

Re: Starship Troopers - Region A Release

My UK version landed on my desk this morning.

1080p 1.85:1
PCM 5.1

Disc contains:

Feature film
Teaser trailer
Featurette
Deleted Scenes
Scene Developments with commentary
Screen Tests
Blu-Scape
Movie showcase
Seamless menus

Numerous warnings on the case and the inside about some players not being able to access all features and bonus materials and that it may be necessary to upgrade the firmware.
