T2 Blu-Ray, Bad Picture!!

Just watched this, very bad PQ, alot of dust on the print, my WMV-HD version was much cleaner, I think the mpeg 2 compression is partly to blame, I mean I can see pixelation..., running it on a 1680*1050 Display..., they really need to use double the bitrate if they are going to carry on using MPEG2 compression as 20mb/s is clearly not enough...

Re: T2 Blu-Ray, Bad Picture!!

MPEG2 encoding and single layered discs have put me off Blu-ray. I gather the format can be brilliant when they get everything right. I've got a thread regarding technical info on the discs. I would like to find a UK site that tells you the type of coding used on each disc and whether they are single or dual layer. This info is not shown on the covers. Only Fox mention how many layers their discs have and most are singe. MPEG2 should be avoided and all discs should be dual layered.

Cheers
Bri

I agree MPEG2 should be avoided but there really is no requirement for all discs to be dual layered. If VC1 (or even AVC) is used a decent encode does not have to be that large.

I agree - I returned my T2 BluRay as the PQ was poor and the audio was limited to DD. There is a UK HD DVD version of this film being released (mid-Agust) - details haven't been confirmed yet but the French version sports English DTS Master Audio 5.1 as well as a VC1 encode. It might also be the extended cut that gets released.
